"I preferred when you were grinning this morning," Nate informs me as we join the line to get our lunch. "What made your mood change? I noticed it from English class."
"I'm fine," I brush him off and pay for my lunch before making my way to our table where Ramona and her minions are already chatting away.
"You are fine," he says as he walks beside me and I frown in confusion. "But I am not talking about your body right now. Tell me what's on your mind."
"I can't," I say nodding to the girls at our table. "Hey girls."
"Later," Nate mouths to me as we sit down.
I sigh. He never gives up. Well, we will see about this evening.
"Hey Nate," the girls greet looking at us. "Hey Amber."
I give them the best fake smile I could muster and Nate just nods. But what he asks next shock pretty much all of us.
"Where's Willow?" We all raise our eyebrows at him. Is it me or are these girls following my every move? "What? I just haven't seen her and I am use to seeing her around."
"In two days, Nate," I say giving him a 'really' look and and I hear the girls agree. "Is there something going on that I don't know about?"
"Oooh, boyfriend interrogation," I hear Ramona say excitedly.
"Wait," my head snaps around to Ramona. "Boyfriend interrogation? Nate and I-"
"We'll be back," Nate informs them cutting me off and grabs my hand. "Give us a couple minutes alone."
He then drags me out of the cafeteria to the janitor's closet. He immediately let go of his grip on my hand and I give him a glare.
"The janitor's closet? Do you know what they do in the janitor's closet?" I scrunch my nose in disgust as the smell of soggy and dirty mops mixed with bleach fills the air. "I swore I thought the janitor would have gotten a working lock on this door by now."
"It is working, he just doesn't lock it at this time," he shrugs and then raises an eyebrow at me. "Really?"
"What have I done now?" I ask and sigh.
"I drag you away with no explanation," he answers. "And the first thing you do is complain that I have you in the janitor's closet. Not even ask the question why I carried you here?"
"Hey," I playfully hit him. "I was about to get to that, but you just spoiled the moment."
He laughs. "Well, I think you have forgotten that we are together."
"And where are the air quotes? We aren't actually together," I say to him.
"Well, we kind of are," he chuckles.
"No, we aren't,"
"Yes, we are."
"No."
"Yes."
"Stop being childish."
"You started it."
"You like Willow."
And just like that his lips connect to mine. My mind went numb and at some point I found myself kissing him back. I then push him away as my rational senses kick in.
"Amber, I-" he began, but I already ran out of the room.
I make my way back to the cafeteria feeling everyone's eyes on me. What is going on? The same feeling from Monday return.
"Oooh, you guys are naughty," Ramona says as I sit back down at the table.
"What?" I am not going to admit that we were actually doing anything, but I am curious to know what make them think that.
"Your lips are swollen and I heard you and Nate were in the janitor's closet," she shrugs and gives me a mischievous grin. "We all know what happens in the janitor's closet."
That fast. These people gossip way too much. Well, I should know better. It is high school after all. I unconsciously touch my lips as Nate sits back down beside me.
"We need to talk," he mouths to me and makes sure his hand blocks the others view from seeing his lips. I shake my head and he sighs.
"Sooo," Ramona says as I take a bite out of my apple and I raise an eyebrow at her in question. "Try- outs are tomorrow."
"Oh," I simply respond. "What about it?"
"You are going to go, right?" She looks at me with hope and excitement shining brightly in her eyes. The girls clasp their hands and mouth 'please' to me.
"I don't know," I shrug putting down the rest of my apple and drink some of my drinks. "Probably."
Ramona's eyes grow larger with something glimmering bright in them. Her eyes remind me of flying saucers. They are so wide right now.
"Ladies," Nate comes in the conversation. "We have class, the bell is about to ring any minute now."
The bell rings right after Nate speaks and I get up not saying one more word or looking his way. I can't believe he kissed me. Again.
A/N: I am so sorry about Nate kissing Amber, but things have a place. You will see why that happened. Just stay calm. And what's up with Mr. Longmore? Anyone can figure it out? Thanks for reading and please vote. Tell me what you think of the story thus far.
