"So what should be our theme for party night?" Ramona asks while I sit on the floor of her bedroom reading my textbook.
I shrug. "Do we have to have a theme? Can't we just wear what we feel like?"
"Oh my God! Are you crazy, Amber?!" Ramona exclaims as I hear a couple gasps in the room from the other girls.
"How will we match and let everyone know we are a team?" Says Sarah, one of the minions. "That's how we let them know we are besties!"
"You need to understand the girl's problem, she might be the captain, but she's new to all this," says one of the hater girls I met when I went to Coach Longmore's office that Monday.
"Shut up Whitney!" Ramona tells her before turning to me. "Any suggestion on a theme?"
"We are going to a party, people," I say taking off my reading glasses. "How about red? Or even better, let's all wear red wigs or something." I finish sarcastically hoping that will keep me out of the conversation for now. I really do hate talking.
"That is such a great idea!" They exclaim.
I look up at them with a raised eyebrow. These persons are seriously crazy if they are even considering what I just said. And maybe I am crazy to hang out with these people. Then again, isn't it that which is expected of me? Even though many might consider me clueless, I prefer to stay on these girls good side. They can get pretty nasty when they hate. I have been witness to it a couple times in the past since I always tried to stay in the background to not be noticed which until now, always worked pretty fine. Thank goodness I am only going to be around them for a year. With their grades, I think I am safe for college.
"Yeah, maybe we could buy them tomorrow," I hear the others agree and I drop my heavy book on the floor with a thud.
All eyes are on me and somehow Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown song All eyes on me pops up and I suddenly hate the song. I take off my glasses again and rub the bridge of my nose. Well, I definitely ain't going to get any time to study now.
"Are you al-"
I raise my hand to stop her from asking her question. I stand up and look at each one of them in the eye.
"Instead of themes, we are going to talk about rules," I say and they all stare at me. How do some people manage having so much attention? I can't take it. "First off, there will be a designated driver."
"We could have my chauffeur do that," Ramona suggests and I send daggers her way.
"Are you that messed up Ramona? Your parents hire that chauffeur," I tell her. "We can't afford him reporting anything to your parents or anyone on that fact. What happens if you all do something stupid?"
"Okay," they nod. "Good point."
"Good, next rule," I say counting them off with my fingers. "No one is to be left behind since you all are so persistent on being a 'team'. No more than three beers and stay as far away from cameras like they are the plague. Don't go far from the house and if you want to have a hook up, come to me and tell me so that I know, so we don't wonder where you are or if you are dead. And telling me also let you hear yourself and know if you are making the right decision. Lastly, no one will be going home with no one, whether boy or girl. If you do, you can kiss your ass good-bye. Got it?" I make sure to look each and everyone of the girls in their eyes so that they know I am serious.
"What happens if we can't find you?" One of them ask. I think her name is Krishna or K something.
"There's a reason for phones and why you shouldn't drink more than three beers," I tell her. "Beer has a lot of calories by the way which can cause you to gain weight also."
They nod and I continue my rant about understanding rules.
"All phone batteries have to be charged to its max before we head off to the party," I say. "And I will be your designated driver or DD."
"So what about our clothing?" Sarah asks. "I mean, we have to look good."
"Oh, I don't care," I tell them with a shrug. "All I want to know is that I am wearing black."
"So wait," Ramona grins. "We can dress you?"
I shrug. "If you want, I am not really a fashion expert. Just keep me out of that aspect."
"So we just need to wear the same black tops or something?" Asks Sarah.
"Yeah, I guess," I say eyeing each one of them carefully. "Why are you all grinning so much?"
"Nothing," Ramona jumps up to say. "You can continue being a geek now."
"Okay then," I tell them losing the authority in my voice and going to sit down back on the floor with my legs crossed Indian style.
Well, at least they aren't going to bother me for the rest of the night. I watch them as they go online for outfits and discussing, working as a team before falling into my own world. A world of peace and a Biology textbook.
