"Screech" A mocha brown owl screeched from her cage in the corner of the room.

My head shot up out of bed, my flaming red hair flying in my face. I breathed deeply and smiled. Today was the day, my last first day. Today was September 1, 1978 and I was going back to Hogwarts, my home sweet home.

But before I get into all of that I should probably explain who I am. My name is Lily Marie Evens. I'm 17 years old and I live in Surry which is really close to London, England. People say I'm really pretty but I think I'm more awkward. I have really really really bright red hair, the kind where when people see only the back of my head they know who I am. I'm really pale too and kind of short, I'm only 5' 3''. My favorite part about myself is that I have really bright green eyes. My mum always said they look like emeralds. I'm not sure where I got them from because no one in my family has green eyes like mine, but I wouldn't ever trade them. But above all that, the most important thing about me is that I'm a witch. Like for real though, like I can do magic and fly on a broom. That's why I'm excited about today. Today's my first day back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry after the summer holiday. It's my home, I mean I've lived there for most of the past six years and this year I'm back for my seventh. I'm Head Girl too, which I think will be totally awesome.

I looked over at the clock to see it read 9:00. I jumped and went to go get changed. I only have two hours to get changed (I'd already packed a few days ago), before I have to be at that Station to board the Hogwarts Express one last time. I wouldn't want to be late.

"James! Sirius! Get you arses out of bed this instant you're going to be late!"

"Ok, ok I'm up mum!" I yell down too her as I climb out of bed and stretch.

"Sirius get up!" I yell as I push my best friend and roommate Sirius onto the floor. He mumbles and pouts up at me from the floor. I roll my eyes at him and pull out a muggle shirt and pair of jeans from my hamper.

Today was the day, my last first day. I got butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it. Today was it. The last time I would go to Kings Cross and get on that train, the last year of mischief and mayhem caused by my best friends and me, my last chance to get her to say yes, to notice me. My Lily, I've loved her forever it feels. I really can't even remember when I first started liking her. But it's never stopped. My love for her grows every time I see her face, those eyes, that hair. But she'll have nothing to do with me. She doesn't like me at all, and if it weren't for the fact I made her notice me every chance I got she probably wouldn't even know my name. But this year it would change. This year I had a plan.

Sirius was staring at me lost in space; I could tell when I turned around. I just gave him a sheepish grin . He already knew what, or more accurately who, I was thinking about. I couldn't help it and he knew it. Lily was just this part of my brain I couldn't shut off and this wasn't the first time he'd caught me lost in thought about her, at least he finally had stopped ragging me about it. Sirius didn't really understand. He thought he did, but he was the kind that had a new girl every other night. He could get any female he wanted. Probably Lily too, but he would never do that to me. We were like brothers and he knew for a fact since I had claimed her first year, Lily was mine. I sighed and bent to pick up some books and threw them in my trunk. I'd only half packed last night and I had a lot more things to do in the hour and a half I had before the train left the station. We'd be pushing it like always; I never was one for being on time.

The scarlet engine gleamed in the sunlight flowing through the glasses roof of the platform. People stood in tight groups all over, and trunk on trolleys dotted the floor. I pushed mine through the crowds of people to a more open area and turned to say good bye. This was always the most awkward part. I loved my parents, and I knew they were proud of me but they were also muggles and could never understand this life I had at school. Not to mention my younger sister Petunia who for lack of a better word despised my every fiber. She had refused to come to say good-bye and I wasn't even surprised. She hadn't seen me off since third year.
