Two loud snaps, the sound originating only an inch or two away from his face, sent a steely pulse of pain through his head, feeling like a solid object rolling through his brain. Izuku flinched hard, blinking, trying to focus on the source of the noise.
"Hey," Shinso, his hand hovering near Izuku's face - it took an embarrassingly long moment for Izuku to register that the noise had been Shinso snapping his fingers to get his attention, and another long moment for Shinso's furrowed brow and deepened frown to register as concern. "You alright?"
Izuku took a moment to scrub at his eyes, feeling disoriented and like he'd just woken up. "Yeah, I'm fine. Why?"
"You're being weird," Shinso responded flatly.
"What Hitoshi means to say," Iida added, his loud voice sending sparks through Izuku's skull, "is that you've been very quiet and were briefly unresponsive just a moment ago, and you haven't eaten anything, and we're concerned about you."
"Yeah, Mido, you seem really out of it today. Are you feeling alright? We can take you to see Recovery Girl if you want!" Uraraka's bubbly voice, although not as loud as Iida's, was like a baseball bat to the brain. Izuku winced, realizing suddenly how much he had curled in on himself, hunched over in his seat.
"I'm okay," he tried to straighten up a little, squinting as the cafeteria lights stabbed him. "I just - my head hurts a little, that's all."
Shinso, Uraraka and Iida all stared at him for a moment. His shoulders were pulled inwards and close to his head protectively, his face drawn tight. He didn't seem emotionally distressed at all, just physically tense. They shared a look with each other, then looked back to him.
"I think you should have Recovery Girl take a look at you anyways, just in case." Uraraka had lowered her voice a little, thankfully. "Even if it's not serious, she can give you a tylenol or something. No sense in powering through it if you don't have to, right?"
"I dunno if painkillers would do anything," Izuku propped his head up with his hand, covering his eyes, belatedly realizing that probably sounded bad. "It's not bad, really."
"Are you sure?" Uraraka asked, frowning. His friends seemed unconvinced by his half-assed dismissal, and Izuku just didn't have the capacity to be any more convincing. It only just then struck him why he was trying to avoid the suggestion. He didn't like seeing them worried, sure, but he also didn't want to risk Recovery Girl using her quirk on him again. It might actually send him into a coma, now that the USJ incident had probably doubled his reset count.
But he'd taken too long to respond and now Hitoshi was dragging him by the arm. He'd just have to tell her not to use her quirk and hopefully she would listen. After all, it was really just a headache.
"Light sensitive?"
Izuku opened his eyes to look at Recovery Girl, then squeezed them shut again. The lights in the infirmary felt so much brighter than the cafeteria or the hallways, probably because it was a smaller room.
"I guess so, yeah."
Hitoshi snorted from where he stood by the door, hanging back. Izuku probably didn't realize that he looked ready to hide under the bed.
Recovery Girl ignored him. "How about sound?"
Izuku squinted at her, the question not quite landing. "What about it?"
"Are you sensitive to sound right now? Do loud noises make your headache worse."
"Oh. Yeah."
"Do you feel nauseous at all?"
"No. Don't really have an appetite, though."
She hummed. Izuku didn't bother trying to decipher it. "Can you tell me where the pain is?"
