Work. Need I say more? The only thing I dreaded more than going to Jeremy's house was going to work. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my job. It's just that, ya know, sometimes you need a little break. Like today for instance, I'm stressed out because of Lex, my brain is tired as all get out, and after work I have training which I will most likely end up with some deep tissue bruising. Yep, this is going to be such a lovely day!
I haven't heard much out of Charlie lately, and yes, I gave him a nickname. Don't look at me like I'm crazy, this is my brain so I am allowed to think whatever I want! The last time I saw him was at the hotel when I took him his menu. I haven't seen him around, I haven't received a call, and the maids say his room is spic and span, and his bed is always made up. Hopefully the peace around the hotel will stay that way, because it's better for me if I never see him.
I guess I should have held my breath for that statement, because there he was, standing at the manager desk waiting on me as I walked through the front doors. I silently drown myself in pitying tears or sorrow. Of all days, why did it have to be this one? Of course, it would be the day I am zonked out, I wallow in my depressed mind.
I walk up to my desk and sit my briefcase down, ignoring him as much as I can. I've never been the type of person who would ignore easily, because I'm curious and want to know what people are up to. I take out all the papers and material from my briefcase and sit it around, slowly organizing it one by one, I even added in a little hum. Once I'm finished with my leisure task, I've composed myself enough to look at him.
"Hello, Mr. Dunst. How can I help you?" I asked, making sure to not say his nickname. That would be so embarrassing if I accidentally let it slide out.
"I was wondering if we could go out to eat somewhere for breakfast? I would really like to talk to you." He replied in a calm demeanor. Hmm, wonder what he wants to talk about? This could be a really bad idea though, no telling what he would he do. I mean, it's not like he was going to kill me in front of the whole restaurant. Well, it looks like I'm leaning more on the side of yes, so what the hell? Why not?
"Sure. Where are we going to go?" I ask him, grabbing a post-it note from my stash in a drawer to leave a note for Lex that I was going out for breakfast.
"No where fancy. Just the place down the road." He replies as I finish scribbling my note down. I look up to see him smiling down at me. What is his problem? He looks like he's happy...
"What's with that look? Did you take a happy pill or something?" I ask him, he is way to happy, it's only seven o'clock and I'm still in my morning funk.
"So I see you aren't a morning person." He chuckles quietly as he grabs my elbow and walks me toward the doors. Where his fingers touched my skin sent that white cold tingles down my spine, and I hate to admit it but I enjoyed it. Wait, no, I'm not allowing myself to enjoy it. The guy is a jerk, and forced me to kiss him, for crying out loud! If that's not a jerk, I don't know what is.
"Of course I'm not! I hate mornings!" I grumble as I yank my elbow out of his possession. I looked at him with daggers in my eyes, the only way to keep him from seeing I was interested. My daggers did nothing but amuse him, the gal of the man! Instead of putting his hand by his side, he put it at the small of my back, which made the tingles return. I think I should have left his hand on my elbow, because this is going to drive me insane.
"Hey, guess what!" I ask him by turning my head around to look at him. He's not even looking at me, he's looking off into the distance as if he was daydreaming. Hah, I've never heard of a guy daydreaming!
"Hmm?" He replies, as he turns his head back to look at me. He jerks me to the side and I nearly fall if it wasn't for him catching my arm.
"Hey! What was that for?!" I ask him, confused about why he moved so quickly.
"Oh, you were about to run into someone because you weren't watching where you were going. My guess is you were looking at something pretty dang sexy." His lips pulled up into a genuine smile and I found myself smiling with him.
"Oh, I don't know. That man we passed was pretty spicy." I replied, waggling my eyebrows and purposefully not naming him. He frowned down at me and shook his head.
"I didn't see us pass any man except for that old eighty year old on a cane. So that must mean you dig the old guys?" He asked me skeptically with a smile still on his lips. I couldn't help but laugh at his remark and playfully poke him in the arm.
"Yea. I dig those old people. I don't know, I find their wiseness and white hair sexy." I jokingly said and couldn't control my arm as it slid behind his back, which was all sinewy muscle. We made it to the restaurant then, so we went inside. It's a place where you seat yourself, and Charlie pulled out my seat for me.
I grabbed the menu, even though I already knew what I wanted, and flipped through it.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked him as I sat my menu back on the table and looked up at him. He looked kind of uncomfortable and anxious.
"I wanted to talk to you about your grandma." He told me, which then created the chain reaction of question bombs in my head. How did he know about my grandma? Does he know about magic? Why does he want to talk about her?
"Why? Do you know her?" I asked him, skeptical about him now that I came. At least we were in a public place.
"Yes, I had the honor of meeting her, she looked alot like you." He said as a side note, but still not answering my complete question.
"So? Why do you want to talk about her?" I asked him, my nerves starting to crack at such stress too early in the morning.
"Well, your grandmother fell in love with my grandfather, so you and your mother might be the result of an affair long ago." He stated the facts that broke my heart. If his grandfather... and my grandmother, that means we might be related. Well this is just great, doesn't this day just keep getting better and better!
