Katerina sat in the Institute library, hugging her knees to her chest as she stared in silence at the endless rows of books. She and Alison used to sit in the library for hours every day, looking through all the ancient books, engrossed in the information they found. The Shadowhunter remembered how she and her parabatai would run through the institute laughing, discovering all the rooms and hiding places together.
Kat sighed and shook her head, trying to clear it of all the memories. It had been at least three months since Alison had died, and still, Kat was hurting, unable to keep her mind off the loss.
Just then the door was flung open, and Alex walked in, frowning. "Kat.. Dinner is ready. You need to eat something."
The grieving Shadowhunter shook her head. "I'm not hungry."
Alex walked over, looking into her eyes seriously. "You need to eat. I know you haven't eaten yet today."
Kat said nothing, instead staring blankly at the wall over his shoulder.
Alex sighed studied her swollen red eyes before gently tugging at her arm until she stood. "Please, Kat, just come eat something. At least for Quinn and I, if for nothing else."
The girl slowly stood up, blinking rapidly and swallowing as she looked at her friend. "Alright. I'll eat." At Alex's concerned look, she forced a smile and grabbed his wrist, pulling him to the door. "Let's go."Quinn looked up as the other two entered, both looking exhausted and pale. He smiled, standing up. "Thank god. Kat, you need to eat something. Ally wouldn't want you to starve."
Katerina stopped just before sitting down, her dark eyes locked unto Quinn's. "Don't you dare say that. You don't know what Alison wants. And she's dead. Whether I eat or not will not change that!" Tears were running down her cheeks, and the others were silent as they all sat down and began to eat.
The air was filled with tension, but nobody knew what to say after Kat's outburst. Finally, Alex decided to break the silence. "Where is David?"
David was the instructor at the Institute. He was close with all of the students he trained, and was taking Alison's death nearly as hard as Kat was.
Quinn shrugged, his head down. "Out hunting again. Said he'll be back late, not to wait up for him."
The room fell silent again. Everyone knew what David was really doing. The werewolf that had killed Alison had not yet been caught, and the instructor was determined to find vengeance.
The meal continued in silence for a few more minutes before a knock at the door again broke the silence. The three teens looked up and exchanged wide-eyed glances. The Institute rarely had visitors, and had it been David returning earlier, he would not have knocked.
The Shadowhunters all nodded to each other, agreeing to go together.
As they walked slowly to the entrance hall, Alex gently took Kat's hand, and Quinn walked just behind them, looking nervous.Kat opened the door, ready to grab her knife if needed, as Alex and Quinn stood on either side, weapons out in case of attack. Kat blinked at the sight of the person standing outside, and there was a clanging sound as the boys dropped their knives in shock.
On the stairs, looking small and pale, was a teenage girl with long black hair and dark green eyes.
Kat was the first to speak, her voice filled with shock and grief. "...Ally?"Thats a good place to end XD. I haven't updated since last year, and I feel really bad. But I decided I should try and finish this book, so hai! XD I'll try and update regularly, I promise.
