Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams
"The Kids Aren't Alright" by the Offspring*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I rushed outside to find Luke. I didn't want to be late and have him irritated with me.
I reached the school gate where we had planned to meet, but he wasn't there yet. I don't know why I had thought he would be there on time. He never is to anything.
I looked around trying to search for him through the stampede of students making their way home. With no luck, I was starting to think he had stood me up.
I was startled when I turned around and saw Luke standing fairly close to me.
I clutched my chest and was breathing heavily, which he must have noticed because he chuckled a bit. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, Danielle."
"Dani." I corrected. "I don't like the name Danielle. Everyone just calls me Dani."
Once I had regained my ability to breath, we started walking out of the campus gates. We went through the parking lot and stopped at a black sports car.
"Hop in," Luke gestured towards the passenger seat.
I hesitated a moment before opening the door and seating myself on the black leather. I strapped myself in while Luke got himself situated and turned the car on, immediately playing loud music.
"Uh, sorry." Luke says, turning the stereo down quickly. I can see the light pink tint on his stubbled cheeks.
"No, no it's ok. I like that song actually."
"You know The Offsprings?" He asks looking astonished.
"Yeah, they're one of my favorite bands."
Still shocked, he replied, "Wow, I've never meet very many people who know them, let alone like them, especially a girl. What's your favorite song?"
"I like a lot of their stuff. If I had to choose one though, it would probably be 'The Kids Aren't Alright' "
He looked at me like he had just found $10 on the street. "That's my favorite too! Wow, what other bands do you like?"
As we continued our journey downtown to the park, we kept talking about music. It turns out, we have the exact same music taste. Luke wasn't at all nervous like he was earlier, and I had seemed to have forgotten about my social awkwardness and fear of talking to people. In this moment, it was just me, Luke and music.

"I think we are done here." I say, closing my notebook.
We had been sitting in the park for about 3 hours. Most of the time we were stalling, talking about music and other nonsense.
I once again put my notebook in my backpack and stood up off the ground, Luke following.
"I actually had a great time with you, Dani." Luke spoke up. "You're not at all what I though you were. The people at school are àssholes for messing with you."
I gave him a weak smile. "Thanks Luke. That means a lot. I better get going, it's getting late."
I turned to leave but Luke caught my arm. "I could drive you home if you'd like?"
Even though I really wanted to spend more time with Luke, I knew letting him drive me home would be a bad idea.
"No, that's alright. I don't live far, actually. Thank you though."
