I slipped the key into the lock and turned the knob. The room I then walked into was gorgeous. There was a master’s bed fully made even with little mints! There was a flat screen TV and a window by my new bed.  If I went right there was a huge bathroom! Granite counters and everything! What caught my eye was the light from the window. I walked over to it and pulled back the curtains. What I saw beautiful! The rain had cleared up and there was a rainbow above the city. The sun was starting to set and it was truly magnificent. I didn’t have to hear the yelling or the cabs honking. All I saw was the view. It was like my own world. A mixture of my old life and new life. Wait what? NEW life? I threw the blinds back and went away from the window.

I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to start a new life. I want it how it was back in Texas. My friends. My animals. My happiness. And my freedom. I want to go back in time and relive those moments. I forced my eyes together to block the tears. I don’t cry much because I always stop it. I’m not going to start crying here. In my “new” life.

I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I almost screamed at the sight of myself. Have I looked like that this whole time? Why didn’t someone tell me? Gross I thought to myself. I was wearing almost no makeup and trust me, that’s probably the scariest thing you will ever see. I had probably the ugliest clothes on because I didn’t think I would be meeting anyone. And to top it off, my hair looked like a rat’s nest. I was going to take a shower but it was already 5 o’clock and I normally eat at 5:30. I went to my bag to grab my makeup so I could look somewhat decent.

After that, I started looking for my hairbrush. It wasn’t in my toiletries bag which shocked me. I checked my shirt bag, then my pants bag, and then my dress bag. I couldn’t find it! Then I went into panic mode. What am I going to do? I can’t go out there like this! They’ll think I’m a freak! Well Ashley already does… But that’s not what I’m saying! In the middle of my panic attack I heard a knock on my door. I completely froze. Who is it? What do they want? Am I in the wrong room? I was asking myself so many questions when there was another knock. I realized that I had been keeping whoever was out there waiting. I threw my hood up and took a deep breath and opened the door. When I looked I saw a girl that looked younger than me. She looked about 6 years old. She had bright red hair in a ponytail. Her eyes, along with Chris’s and Ashley’s were bright blue. She had freckles by her nose and a big smile. She looked like a person that would never be sad. I smiled down at her and said hello. “Hi! My name’s Elizabeth but everyone calls me Lizzy! I heard you’re the new girl!” she said. I replied “I love your name Lizzy!” she smiled widely as I continued; “My name is Crystal! How do you find your way around here?” She just shrugged and I realized that she has probably been here a while. She spoke up, “Anyways I came here because I found a brush a couple doors down and I didn’t recognize it. Is it yours?” I looked down and saw my bright blue hairbrush. You have no idea how happy I was! “Yes that is mine! I’ve been looking for it!” She reached her hand out and gave my hairbrush to me. She smiled and waved goodbye as she skipped down the hallway. She seemed just like a little fuzzy ball of happiness.

I went back in my room and closed the door. I wanted to scream I was so happy! I went to the bathroom and started brushing. It was hard but I finally got my hair looking presentable. It was about 6:30 by the time I was done brushing my hair. I started to freak out! I threw on a pair of jeans and a British flag t-shirt. I quickly ran out of my room. I didn’t bother locking it because I knew I was already late and who would steal here? I sprinted down the hallway and took random turns. I was running for about 15 minutes until I was out of breath. I was hopeless I knew I had missed dinner. I sat down and leaned against a wall. It was about 5 minutes before I heard a door open.

My eyes shot open because I thought it might be Chris. I looked up and I saw Jack! I was so happy to see my little brother I ran up to him and hugged him! He hugged back and said “Jeez Crystal when I heard someone out here you scared me! I thought you were a murderer or something!” I couldn’t help but laugh at my little brother. “Don’t worry Jack I wouldn’t hurt you!” He smiled. “I know.” We walked into his room where there were two beds. “Umm Jack why are there two beds?” “Oh you’ll never believe it! I have a roommate! He’s awesome! His name is Mike and he’s really good at video games!” I was so glad my brother found a friend! “Well that’s nice. I don’t have a roommate.” I said kind of sad. If I had a roommate then maybe I could find myself an actual friend. I heard a voice from the other bed saying “Everyone has a roommate.” I looked at Jack and he said “That’s Mike! He told me he was going to get some sleep before dinner.” “Oh well hello Mike, and goodnight. Wait when’s dinner?” I asked. “Not until 7:30” Jake replied. I thought to myself really Crystal? Are you that stupid? “Ok well I’ll see you at dinner.” I said trying to hide the fact that I was so mad at myself. I gave my brother a hug and I walked back to my room.

I was shocked that I remembered that because I have never been good at memorizing things. When I walked into my room I looked in the dark corner and I saw another bed. It shocked me really because if whoever is there has been there a while, they saw me get ready and everything. I started to walk over there when I heard a voice from the door. “Hey what are you doing? Not to be rude but who are you?” I turned around and saw a girl that looked slightly older than me. She had brown hair dip-dyed in blue. Her eyes were also bright blue. It kind of scared me how everyone’s eyes were blue. “Oh I was just looking around... My names Crystal and I’m new here.” Her face immediately lightened up “Oh I’m sorry Crystal! I thought you were an intruder or something. My name’s Sophie!” I replied “No I’m not an intruder just a new comer. It’s nice to meet you Sophie!” I was trying to be as polite as I could. She was obviously taken back by how polite I was. There was an awkward silence as I rocked back and forth on my toes. “Well I’m heading off to dinner so I’ll see you later.” She said. “Wait! Can I come with you? Sorry but I have no idea where anything is…” “Sure! Once you learn you’ll never forget.” She took me down way too many hallways for me to remember and I’m not even sure how many flights of stairs it was but we finally got there.

When we arrived, there was a huge long room with an incredibly long table. A lot of people were already sitting and eating. While I was in shock by how many people there was, Sophie sneaked away from me and probably went to her friends. Great. Just great. I know nobody and my little brother won’t want to sit with me. I was walking up and down next to the table looking for an empty seat. I got a lot of glares and questioning looks from almost everyone there. I probably looked like a lost freak. All of a sudden I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and was face to face with a girl that was about my age. She had short brown hair and bangs. Her cheeks were chubby and her eyes were blue. What a shocker! “Hi my name’s Hallie! My friend Chris over there wanted to come ask you to come sit with us but he didn’t have the guts to.” “Hi Hallie! Umm my name’s Crystal” She grabbed my hand and pretty much dragged me to a part of the table and shoved me in a chair. I probably looked like a weird penguin trying to fly as I was dragged around. I heard laughs from people around me and I was so embarrassed! My cheeks were burning up and I couldn’t bring myself to lift my head. I wanted to cry! I was just like I was at my old house. A clumsy weird freak. Everyone was laughing then all of a sudden there was a giant BOOM sound and a bunch of screams. I took cover under the table while things were falling down. After about 10 minutes of silence I decided I would go look around. I pushed on a pile of wall but it wouldn’t budge. I tried as hard as I could then reality sank in. I was stuck and there was nobody here to save me.
