When I closed my eyes, I was surprised to see that it was still bright outside. We were now standing behind a van in a parking lot.
“Uh, wrong place?” I mused.
“Shh, this is as close as we can get, the area around here is bare, at best. Depending on how things go, we might be able to hide behind that hill. Drink this.” Colton commanded. It was the invisibility liquid again. I did so without saying a word.
“Were invisible, now cant we get closer?” I asked.
“Not quite, most magical protections will reveal us, but we should be able to get a little closer when the dust settles. Here.” Colton handed me a set of binoculars.
“Fancy, we have all this magic and we’re using binoculars.” I joked again. Soon after I felt my body go numb for a second, and then we were invisible again.
“Some things cant get bettered. Now be quiet, just follow my lead ok.” Colton said as I heard him creep forward. Not knowing what else to do, I crept forward to get a good look, when I neared the edge of the van, I bumped into an unseen Colton. Without either of us saying a word, I inched around him until I got a good view, and wasn’t pressed up against him. I held the binoculars to my eyes and observed the distant events. There was a large group of people near the standing rocks. I counted fourteen all together, including the four shackled together by the wrists and ankles. They were wearing brown cloth robes tied at the waist by a rope. They looked like monks if I didn’t know any better. All four of their faces were pale white.
Slowly they walked into the center of the stones. The remainder of the group backed far away. I even noticed Tyson himself backed up beyond the trench surrounded Stonehenge.
“Its going to start soon, we should move closer if were going to get a good look at the events. Under no circumstances should you do anything other than what I say.” Colton found my arm and began guiding me down closer at a brisk pace.
As far as we were still, I could hear clearly Tyson yelling. Dark clouds formed above, blocking out the sky. Shadows covered the ground as lightning struck the ground all around.
“He’s fighting the protection spells. Hold still, I’m going to do what I can, maybe we can prevent this from happening all together.” Colton said as his blue magic began to melt into the ground. Tyson and his group were doing the same thing, their magic flowing into the ground. The magic pooled in the trench surrounding Stonehenge. Slowly, a thin blue barrier revealed itself, covering Stonehenge like a blue dome.
“Shit, it’s no use.” Colton swore as I saw his magic fade.
The blue barrier began to form bright yellow cracks and I watched as they spider webbed around the entire barrier. Moments later the barrier burst into bright blue dust.
Moments later, the group of wizards, led by Tyson, moved closer. Once they were just behind the first set of stone pillars, they fanned out, creating an outer circle of wizards.
“Brace yourselves everyone, what your about to witness is something no one has ever done before!” Tyson yelled as he slammed his palm into the nearest pillar. Red magic covered the pillar, then the one next to it, and next to that one. This continued until all the pillars were lit bright red. An ominous wind pushed past my robes and I could feel the quick breeze tossing my robes in its draft.
Lightning crashed into one of the pillars, followed by another strike. The wind began to blow faster as the intensity of the lightning grew. I watched as the Fallen Ones were surrounded by a thin blue veil of light.
“Show me the boys prophesy! I command you to show me Jayson Phipps’s prophesy!” Tyson yelled as he shot a blast of red magic towards the Fallen Ones. Instead of exploding on impact, the red magic covered the veil, causing it to collapse on the four prisoners. A bright white light flashed, when it cleared, a vision appeared above. It was me on my last day of class.
“A hero chosen by a God on the brink.” The voice came from everywhere.
The image changed to what I saw as Los Angeles on fire. Buildings crumbled as magic blasts flared in the distance.
“To save the world from his enemy‘s reach.” The voice echoed again.
The image changed again to Tyson and Cyrus in the air fighting. Magic exploded as they collided. Tyson was creating fiery creatures as Cyrus whisked them away.
“No one fight will win the war.” The voice said.
The image changed again to me screaming in agony.
“A choice will be made out of hero’s tears.”
The scene changed to me standing on top of a hill, over looking a city in ruin.
“Only one will decide for all.”
The image blurred and faded away.
Lightning crashed into the Fallen Ones. Instead of striking for a split second, the lightning continued to crash. The explosion was deafeningly loud. My hands were on my ears yet the sound was painful to hear.
When the lightly faded, the Fallen Ones were no longer there.
“Lets go Jayson, we saw what we came for.” Colton said as he created a teleportation circle.
I didn’t wait a moment before I stepped inside. A second later, I was standing back in the dinning hall. Colton was right behind me, I knew because the circle disappeared. A second after that, he waved his hand and was visible. Then he made me visible again.
“That really didn’t help at all.” I said.
“Just confirms what we suspected really. That’s what we need to know though.” Colton replied.
“Didn’t they know all that before?” I asked quietly.
“They knew about you we believe. Just know that a prophesy doesn’t mean it will happen. The whole reason they are so important, is because we can change it to better the future. Knowing that, know this. They will stop at nothing to kill you now. With the partial prophesy we heard last, we all only heard ‘a hero chosen by a God on the brink’ and ‘Only one will decide for all’. With the prophesy more or less complete, they will deem you disposable now. Or worse.” He said in a tame manner.
“I get it. Trust me though. I’ll be training harder than ever.” I replied.
“Indeed. You need to learn how to make your own teleportation circle you know. Why don’t you give that book a read. “ Actually, that wasn’t a bad idea.
“Yea, I think that’s a good idea too.” I said.
“Well I need to inform Cyrus, remember, I never took you.” He said in a deep whisper.
“Took me where?” I mused, “I’ll see you around.”
“I bet he summons you here soon mind you. He thinks you don’t know any of this.” Colton stated.
“Yea, what a drag. Well maybe he will have some pearls of wisdom. Or maybe he just wont be grumpy now, I’ll settle for either one.” I said as I waved and walked out of the dinning hall.
When I arrived back at the training grounds, I decided it was best to just grab a book and return to my room. I entered the tent and noticed it was empty, for the first time since Alex and Becca received permission to enter, it was empty. I grabbed a few books and returned to my quarters.
I spent the rest of my night studying the teleportation spell to no success.
