Chapter 8

Tory's POV

I saw Ben fall, and I suddenly felt lightheaded too. Ugh... not again!

Cooper whimpered, and that woke me. "Ugh... never doing that again." I groaned. I looked at Cooper in alarm as he whimpered again. He suddenly flopped down on the floor panting, and I looked at Lilith, who was on the ground too. What the...?

I checked my hand for more marks, and moaned in horror. "Another mark!" This one was on my left palm, and it was in the shape of a wolf's head. It was luckily faint, but it pulsed with a blue light. Ben held up his palm.

"I got one too." He smirked. "I guess Hi and Shelton need to catch up!" Kalona walked over to watch, standing beside Chance.

"I don't get this..." He murmured under his breath, flustered. I glanced up. He sat down on the floor. "I don't know everything... I may be the first but I'm not a god..."

I went to check on Coop. I froze when I saw that he had changed too. He was bigger now, with a fuller coat. I could tell that his claws were longer too, and his teeth had grown. His eyes were ice blue now, and when he lifted his paw I saw a mark the shape of a wolf head!

Lilith was being looked over by Ben. "She has a wolf head on her paw now!" He frowned, unhappy, holding Lilith's paw. "Why is this happening?" He looked at Kalona, ignoring Chance making odd faces at him.

"I don't know, but I bet the government knows. They started the whole project." He narrowed his eyes, deep in thought.

I frowned, then said brightly "Who is in for a B&E?" They all groaned. Lilith and Cooper barked happily.

We got ready at nine to break into LIRI, hopefully without others noticing. Others being Kit and the guards. I arrived at the docks with Coop, as promised. Ben was already in Sewee with Lilith, and I heard Hi and Shelton scrambling down the dock.

"Got...huff...the...huff...supplies." Shelton was red faced and was panting with sweat streaming down his face. I, surprisingly was not sweating, and it appeared that Hi was sweating too.

Ben hissed, "Get over here before we get caught!" They all scrambled into the boat, avoiding Lilith. Coop hopped over eagerly, and tumbled into Lilith with a yelp.

I quickly yanked Coop back, even though Lilith made no aggressive movements. Yet. I ruffled Coop's ears, while keeping an eye on Lilith. Ben snorted, and started the boat engine. I winced. The noise was way too loud for me, and I could tell everyone agreed. I urged Kalona to come faster, and as if hearing my thoughts, he came flying over our heads, chirping.

Are we going? His voice was still echoing in my head when Ben stepped on the motor and we went rumbling off to LIRI.

The trip was quiet, except for the panting of the wolves.

"So.... Whats the plan again?" Shelton fiddled with his toolbox. Everyone sighed simultaneously.

"Ben and I will go through LIRI with Kalona, while you and Hi create a distraction. Cooper and Lilith will stay with you to watch, and if anything goes wrong, they'll help." I yawned. "Ben and I will go and search for notes on parvo, while Kalona searches for notes on his pack. Kapeesh?" They all nodded. I stretched, and yawned again. "And then we can go home and sleep."

As we docked, I looked around for anything suspicious. Everything was quiet. Too quiet. No birds about, no crickets chirping. "Guys!" I hissed. "There's gonna be trouble."

Kalona's head snapped up. I guess he heard something odd, because he morphed into a person. "Poachers," he warned. "A large group. Around 10, maybe more."
