*Max POV

I ran away. I couldn't stand it anymore. Father only allowed me to come so he could show me off to his colleagues. I was drifting, alone and terribly bored, from table to table of luxurious delicacy before I ran away. Before father embarrassed me in front of everyone for his own benefit. He's going to pay for that. I gritted my teeth and focused on running faster.

As I kept running, straight out of these halls, out of this place I bumped into someone I had no interest in seeing. My aunt, oh wait no, my stepmother.

"Where are you going. You should come back to the party. You'll make your father and I very cross with you." she said.

"Why do you care, your just the wh*re my father married after my mother died. He didn't think twice about marrying you after my mother's mourning period ending, did he?" I said.

Just then I felt a sting on my left cheek. Heat flood my cheek and I felt her sharp glare.

"Don't talk to me that way. I'm your mother now and so you must respect me", she said.

"I really don't care what you call yourself, whether it be wh*re or my aunt or anything else, but you can never call yourself my mother" with that I ran further and further away until I couldn't breathe, until I couldn't think about what just happened.

I ran to the edge of "The Tempest", the boat I was traveling on with my father. He always takes me on his business trips in order to make up for his absence. But, the trips just end with him going to meetings and me staying in the hotel room playing the newest video games. Not that I minded.

I feel very uncomfortable when I'm in his presence. Every time I look deeply into his eyes I can see a hatred masked by disappointment.

I was about to cry when I looked down into the deep and dark sea. It was very dark but I saw a slight movement in the corner of my eye. When my eyes adjusted I realized what I was looking at.

I saw a little girl about my age in the water. I called out to her asking if she was stuck on that rock and if she needed help. But, she didn't react.

I looked into her eyes and I was instantly mesmerized. I could never forget those eyes, and I never will for the rest of my life. It was as if a rainbow was too shy to show itself to the world so instead it hid in her eyes and saw the world through them.

I was too distracted by her eyes to notice the lower half of her body. When I did I was utterly shocked. Her lower half consisted of a fish's tail, but none like I've ever seen before. Her tail was the same shining rainbow of her eyes. She had soft looking white skin and thick lashes that perfectly accompanied her eyes. Her hair was long and deep chocolate.

The girl's face was mirroring my shock as I drank her in with my eyes.

We studied each other for a couple of seconds before I heard a scream, whether it was from anger or surprise I couldn't tell. No, no, no, stepmother had come after me. At the last moment I obscured her view of the girl. I had a sudden urge to protect the girl from prying eyes, not mine though.

Unfortunately, this shout attracted more people. They started to crowd around the edges of the cruise ship in order to catch a glimpse of what the fuss was about. They unfortunately noticed not only stepmother and I, but also the girl.

I don't think they saw her that well because they started to take pictures in order to catch anything their eyes couldn't see

They took pictures with flash in order to see better in the dark veil of the night. I prayed that they would only get a blurry picture. But, before any pictures were taken a large wave came from below and sprayed their designer clothes and gadgets making them unusable.

She left soon after. Dipping slightly up so she could see me better, or maybe for me to see her better. The last thing I saw were her eyes, her perfect multi-colored eyes.

I woke up. I was breathing heavily. I didn't realize I was dreaming this again.

"Please get up sir, I've been calling your name for the past thirty minutes I'm starting to get tired," responded my butler, Alfred.

Alfred is around 35, I'm guessing. He looks younger though. With his black slick back hair and pressed suit. The only thing that adds age to his youthful appearance is his name. Alfred a name for an old man. In a way he has been like my father more than my actual father, but I'll never admit it to him.

"Okay, old man I'm getting up. What's for breakfast," I asked impatiently.

"Bacon, omelets, and tea, my English specialty, "he said proudly.

"Ugh, I need coffee, not tea. Get me some caffeine, proto," I replied.

He simply shrugged and went to obey my commands.

I went outside to greet my best friend, Sam. We were inseparable since we were little boys. Wherever he went I went, and wherever I went he went.

As I was walking out of my cabin I saw a group of girls in the corner of my eye who were giggling. Ever the pleaser I took a glance in their direction and gave them a wink. I'm on fire today. Distracted, right when I was out of their sight I tripped on a pot of mini palm trees. How lovely. At least no one saw.

But as I looked up I could see someone who wasn't going to forget what he just saw.

Samuel Lorenzini, my one and only best friend, stood before me.

Sam is a mix between Irish and Italian. His father was mostly Italian and his mother mostly Irish. This resulted in Sam getting light freckles and slightly pale skin from his mother and dark hair, a shadow of a beard, and a sculpted face from his father.

"Ha ha, nice of you to join us sleeping beauty," he said.

He wanted to say more but the announcement cut him off.

"Hello ladies and gentleman, we have almost reached our final destination. Once the boat comes to a complete stop you may get out from one of the four exits, " said a mechanical feminine voice.

We were still some ways off from the shore, but I didn't think we needed to worry.

As I looked up I saw clear blue skies and calm waves. Today is going to be a great day for surfing.

But just then, everything started to change. The weather went from clear sunny skies to heavy rainfall and insufferable storms.

The boat couldn't continue to travel towards them because of the weather so it changed it's course. Everyone was rushing inside, but not everyone made it in. Luckily I thought I saw Sam enter, but I didn't managed to because of the stampede.

I still made my way forward despite the winds, the people, and the rain. But it wasn't long before I was pushed back to the railing of the ship.

Just then, I felt a heavy push from one of the panicking people trying to get inside. I started to lose my footing. I, not only slipped and fell over the railing, but I hit my head really hard on something metal as I was going down.

Just before I hit the water I saw two alluring iridescent eyes looking at me with a familiar curiosity. Then, I blacked out.
