The soft clinking of cutlery and the occasional bubbling of coffee in the pot filled the quiet morning air. Sunlight streamed in gently through the living room windows, casting warm patterns on the table where breakfast was already laid out.
Jungkook, as always, had woken before Jimin - not because he was an early riser, but because, for some reason lately, the thought of Jimin waking up in his house stirred something in him. He wanted things to be ready. Calm. Settled. He told himself it was for balance, to avoid chaos - not because he liked it.
Jimin emerged silently, hair still a bit damp from a quick shower, hoodie sleeves pushed up lazily. Without a word, he sat down across from Jungkook and reached for the toast. It had become routine now. They didn't talk much during meals. They didn't need to.
But today... Jungkook cleared his throat mid-way through his eggs.
Jimin glanced up.
"There's something I want to say," Jungkook said, his voice unnaturally composed, like he'd rehearsed this.
Jimin's brows lifted a little. "Okay?"
"After we finish eating," he added.
And so they did - in silence, again. But this time, it wasn't awkward. Just... anticipating.
Once the plates were cleared and Jimin had wiped his fingers on a napkin, Jungkook stood and walked into his room briefly. He returned with a file - a neat, crisp, gray folder with a small leather band wrapped around it.
Jimin's gaze followed the movement warily.
Jungkook sat down across from him again and placed the file on the table between them. "Here," he said simply.
Jimin looked at it. "What's this?"
"Read it."
Jimin hesitated, fingers brushing the edge before he finally opened it. His eyes scanned the first page - and froze.
It was an agreement.
Marriage agreement.
Terms. Conditions. Clauses. Expectations.
And at the bottom - blank lines waiting for two signatures.
He blinked.
His heart gave a strange lurch in his chest. But his face - he kept it blank. He looked up.
"So... you're going all legal now?" he asked, voice deceptively light.
"I thought it'd be better this way," Jungkook said, his tone unreadable. "Clear lines. No confusion. You'll still have your space. Your independence. This makes things cleaner. We both know this isn't a fairytale marriage."
"Right," Jimin said, eyes dropping to the papers again. His fingers were trembling faintly, and he hated that. Hated that his body betrayed what his face was hiding.
He flipped through the pages slowly. Clauses about living arrangements. Financial support. Medical authorizations. Public appearance agreements. Privacy terms.
It wasn't cruel or cold.
It was... precise.
Responsible.
Even kind, in a twisted way.
But it stung. A quiet sting. Like someone drawing a boundary around your heart and telling you to stay behind it.
Jimin finally closed the file and nodded.
"I'll think about it," he said simply.
Jungkook blinked. "You're not angry?"
