“Today’s the day, today’s the day!” I said to myself hugging my parents, my brother, Jason and my sister Monica goodbye before boarding my one way flight from Los Angeles, California to Dallas, Texas. Well, or so I thought.

While I was walking away onto the plane my mother yelled to me: “be safe honey!”

For the next 4 months I am going to be an exchange student across the states, of course.

Walking to my seat I’m thinking, me? An exchange student? Who would have thought? I wasn’t as sociable in school, I had my group of friends, but wouldn’t really socialize with the popular kids, of course I had crushes with the football players or cute boys, and wanted to fit in with them, who woulda thought, me, Olivia Martin, going to live with a strange family for 4 months.  As I approached my seat I  was in first class!

 The flight attendant told me all the children going as an exchange all got first class, because they had to have a good impression on us, or else we wouldn’t try it again. I sat down next to a girl named, SamanthaFarve, she goes to school with me here in Los Angeles, we didn’t really talk much, but I guess this flight will give us a start.She was on her way to Boston. Which I thought was weird, why would she be on the flight to Texas if she’s going to Boston.

“Hey Samantha? Why are you on the plane to—“

“Hello everybody flight 456 to Boston, Massachusetts is now ready to leave, please buckle up, it looks as if we will be having a bumpy start, but please have a nice flight. The arrival time should be 5:00pm.” Said the man on the speaker.

OH MY GOSH, I’m on the wrong plane! I got up and ran to the flight attendant told her my story and she said:

“Honey, this is the only flight for the kids going as an exchange you are on the right plane.” She said, putting snacks and drinks on a cart, and pushing me back to my seat.

“No I am not, you don’t understand,” I said pushing her off me and turning around to her saying, ”I am supposed to be going to Dallas, Texas to stay with a family of 3. There’s a girl named Sasha there waiting for me! Where am I going?!”

“You’re going to Boston!” she said practically yelling at me, she turned around grabbing a piece of paper. “This is the list of all the kids going as an exchange across the US, what is your name?” she said, in an annoyed tone.

“Olivia Martin...” I said.

“Okay, Olivia. As I said before, which I will say again. This in the US is the ONLY flight going out on this date with kids going as an exchange! See and your name is under Boston” She said showing me the paper:

            Olivia Martin

             Flight 456 to Boston, Massachusetts on November 6, 2011             staying with the White’s – family of 11.

“Excuse me this is ALL wrong!” I said staring at the paper with my jaw practically down to the floor. “There must be another Olivia! Check the Texas page!” I said nervously.

“I’m sorry honey your name isn’t here, because as I said before THERE IS NO FLIGHT TO TEXAS AS OF NOW!, let me see your ticket.” She said, while I was pulling my ticket out. I showed her my ticket, and she pointed out to me that I was supposed to be going to Boston, that there must have been a misunderstanding.

I walked back to my seat next to Samantha.

 “What was all the commotion about?” she said to me. , not looking up at me, but staring at an article in her magazine.

“I’m not going to Texas…” I said looking out the window, staring down at the clouds, and wondering why someone would do this to me.

“Wake up Liv! We are in Boston!” Samantha said, shaking me. I was trying to push her off me and get her to stop but she wouldn’t.

“Are we really?” I said half asleep. ,still with my eyes closed tight.

“No I just enjoy waking people up! Of course we are here! Look out your window!” She said pointing. I rubbed my eyes and I looked out my window and saw the empty airport, with the passengers walking off.

“Sam, this doesn’t make me happy seeing a practically abandoned lot, with 3 other planes. All I want to do is go home, I’m obviously been “punk’d” and someone messed up this whole thing for me. I’m supposed to be in Texas!” I said closing my eyes and pulling the pink and yellow polka dotted blanked my mother made me over my head.

“Well obviously you’re not going to Texas Olivia! I guess your parents wanted to play a trick on you, because they had to know they were putting you on a plane to Boston, NOT Texas. Give it a rest Liv and enjoy the time you’re here. If they were concerned they would have called you.” She said, turning to see the flight attendant.

The kids here are on exchange, you will be the last to get off since the hosts have to sign papers so they can take you home.” She said, smiling to us. Then I looked at Samantha with a huge grin on her face. I thought about how she knew where she was going, and I didn’t, my whole 4 months ruined, I can’t believe this; I’m stuck in stupid Boston… I felt a tear fall down my face while I leaned my head on the window looking out.  The flight attendant came over and said;

“Are you okay?” she asking me.

“I’m fine… just overwhelmed.” I said, she nodded and walked away. Honestly nothing has been going my way lately.  Nothing at all.

When we all got up we all picked our stuff up and walked off the plane, when we got into the terminal, the family’s had signs with our names on it, when Sam saw hers she hugged me and said to me “See youSoon!  Text me!” I said I would and she left. While on the plane we talked for alittle and we exchanged phone numbers.

 I looked around for my name when I spotted it the sign looked like:

Olivia Martin.

Welcome to the family!

I saw the sign and sighed, here we go a waste of four months of my life. I smiled and waved to the family, I’m guessing the lady holding the sign was the mother all around her were 9 boys of all different ages, honestly they look adorable. I was seriously hoping there was at least one girl in that family besides there mom.

When I got to the family I said; “Hi everyone, I’m Olivia.” They all seemed excited. The lady anxiously said to me;

“Hi Olivia! I’m the mother of these 9 boys, my name is Kate, and please do not hesitate to call me that! From here on in I am Kate to you! You are now considered family.” She said hugging me. , so tight I could barely breathe, I closed my eyes and said to myself, hang in there Liv, and patted her back.

“Okay, hello Kate.” I said smiling.

“In the car I’ll go over introductions of all these boys. We were thinking of going out for dinner, is that okay? Anywhere you want!” she said smiling and patting me on the back.

“Oh, that’s fine with me. But I don’t like picking, I’d rather you pick, I like anything.” I said, one of the boys who was standing closest to me, snickered at what I said, I looked up at him. He was way taller than I am and he was very muscular, he has dirty blond hair almost touching his eyes, with shining green eyes. He said to me;

“Hey I’m Cameron, nice to meet you.” He said looking down at me smiling. With his award winning smile.

“Hi, I’m Olivia.” I said again laughing; I put my hand out for him to shake. But instead he said since we are now family we should hug, and I wasn’t complaining, he’s a very good looking guy.
