There was not a single star in sight. Just pure, pitch-black darkness. I reached out into the darkness and in that moment of time, I could have sworn I saw the moon shy away from me. My icy heart, my cold touch, my dark soul.

I set off into the darkness with my cloak billowing in the wind behind me. Soundlessly, I crept up to him and drew my dagger. The moment the cold metal touched his neck, his eyes opened wide.

"Heaven" he croaked.

"Game. Set. Match." The last words he would ever hear. My cold glare, the last he would ever see. He gasped for his last breath and slumped down onto the hard, stony road. I spun on my feet and left, walking calmly away from the deserted street.

As if what I had done was too terrible, the moon hid its face into the curtains of darkness. Slowly, the street lights switched on as the city entered into a moonless, starless and mayorless night. But this was not to be known. At least not until I was gone.

The memory shook and its quality became fuzzy as I resurfaced into the world. I had just been taking a dip in the pensive. This was my past, not my present, and hopefully not my future.
