I looked up to see a pair of grey eyes staring earnestly at me, a pair that observed with innocence and care. Like I was some fragile doll made of glass. Tears pricked my eyes as I try frantically to prevent the treacherous droplets from falling.

He handed me a hanky and I hastily wiped my tears before heading to the laboratory for another day of hope that would soon be destroyed. Years and decades of hard work have not paid off as we were promised but we were all united to that one cause. Various reasons, but ONLY one cause.

This was our chance of redemption or should I say, our only salvation. It was the light that we clung to through the darkness. But even then, hope was fading as the flashbacks grew more frequent. Was it even possible to achieve practically what we have perceived theoretically? Or perhaps, we were just a bunch of lunatics clinging to every strand of hope we have. Personally, I think both are true for what else could cause us to hold on for this long?
