I woke up on a bed in Percy's cabin. I could easily tell by the smell, and the shells carved into the ceiling, and Percy standing above me really helped that conclusion. Jason was at his side, and they both frowned like the sight of me opening my eyes wasn't a pleasant one.
"Hey," Percy said, then looked at Jason. A silent conversation, great. But I could easily see what they were prompting each other to do.
'You tell her,'
'No, you!'
'You're the new camper, her friend!'
'You're her boyfriend!'
"What?" I hissed, and then my head started throbbing. Dammit.
"We're leaving for our quest soon," Jason said.
"And what does that have to do with the looks you're giving me?"
"Chiron wants you to go back home until everything is settled at camp." Percy added, looking down.
That would've been great, leaving camp and whatnot. Getting away from all the soon-to-be-murderers stalking me. But there was a problem.
"I don't have anywhere to go." I replied, and the throbbing got worse. "No home. I'm a year-rounder, aren't I?" In all honesty, yes, that was a question. There were to many realities in my head, some slipping away, most popping up, and I wasn't really sure about anything anymore. There you go, folks. A mental-Athena child, at your service.
Percy cleared his throat. "You can stay with my mom. She said it was cool over I-Message. Blackjack offered to fly you there and watch over you. You'll be safe from anything and everything." I nearly laughed. I was a demigod, I was never safe.
"Meanwhile, you'll be risking your life to find stars from the sky, and I might never see you again."
"Don't think like that," Percy frowned even more if that was possible.
I closed my eyes. I didn't really want to bother Percy's mom. I couldn't stay at camp; Clarrise would have me killed. But I knew something I could do, and I could use Blackjack and simply state that I was going to Percy's mom's house to do it.
Then something from earlier rang in my mind. Something Narilla had said...
"Find the stars. He will give you one answer. But you've gotta hurry."
Now I know I've got to go. So here's the plan:
Annabeth has a hat from mom that lets her turn invisible. If I snag it before she packs it for her trip, I could use it to be invisible and monitor their progress, helping whenever I got the chance. So I nodded. "Fine," I tried my best to sound both grateful and displeased. "But, you both have to promise me two things."
"What is it?" Jason asked. I'd grown to like him, he wasn't a bad guy and he didn't want me dead. Win win.
"Look after Annabeth." They both replied with 'I promise.' after that. "And, don't die."
"We won't," Jason smiled, but Percy didn't look so sure. "We promise."
"Percy, Jason, let's go pack!" I heard Annabeth call from outside. As the boys left (Percy bringing an already packed bag on his shoulders), I felt a completely hurt. Not physically, the headache started to subside. But Annabeth didn't come in to say goodbye? We were technically sisters, and it upset me that Jason - someone I had only previously met - would come say bye to me, but my sister wouldn't.
I also felt rushed and worried. They were about to go pack and that meant Annabeth was about to grab her cap, the very cap that I needed.
I flung myself over the side of the bed, and after making sure they wouldn't notice me, I dashed to the Athena cabin. I almost fell over twice. The first time because I was so dizzy and unbalanced. The second because my shoelace was undone.
