I slammed my car door in frustration. I stomped up the steps to my apartment and threw open the door, "ALICE!" I yelled.

Alice peeked out her head from the kitchen, "What's up girly?"

I tossed my jacket on the hook and missed, "'What's up?'!" I continued to yell.

Alice looked at me, clearly confused, "Um Rhea, I'm guessing you didn't get the job."

I sighed and flopped on the couch face first, "Na yar ight I id ri ble!" I yelled with my face in the cushions.

Alice sat down next to me, "I can't understand you."

I lifted my head, "No, you're right, I did terrible." I translated.

She patted my back and stood up, "Girl what you need is some warm carrot stew."

I looked up, "Really? You'd do that for me?"

"Well I already had it made for dinner tonight just in case." She smiled and went into the kitchen.

I sat up and looked at my outfit, I decided to go and change. I put on a purple tank top and some black basketball shorts. I walked out of the bedroom, ready to eat.

I sat back down on the soft couch. I smelled the steam pouring off my bowl, "Mmm!" I smiled,"Y'know Allie, I think this is just the thing I needed to cheer me up."

She sipped from her bowl, "Mm hm!"

I finished the big bowl of soup within minutes. I then lay on the sofa, exhausted. I looked over at my good friend, "Hey Alice, where did you really go this morning?"

She glanced away from her phone, "Didn't you see the note?"

I nodded, "Where did you really go?"

She sighed, "Girl, I really went to the market."

I could tell that she was trying not to act perky, "Alice, tell me the truth." I folded my arms.

"I told you the whole ding dong truth! I went to the market for real!" She squeaked.

I stared her down, "Alice..."

She stood up, "Fine! I did go to the market, but I also went somewhere else!"

"Where did you go?"

"Nowhere."

"Tell me."

She sat back down, crossing her arms, "That's none of your beeswax!"

I shook my head, "Alice, you've been sneaking out of the house since the day we moved here! You're always gone during the day, and I've seen you run out in the middle of the night!"

"I-"

"I thought we were good friends, we used to always be together. Inseparable! What happened?"

She stared at her shoes, "I can't tell you, I'm sorry Rhea."

I looked away, "Of course you can't. That's been your excuse every day."

She tried to explain, "I'm sorry, I want to tell you everything, but I'm not allowed to."

I scoffed, "Well if you want to tell me so bad, who's stopping you?" I continued to look away from her.

"Well, that's classified. It's way too complicated anyway, everything is." She tried to hide it, whatever it was.

I turned and looked at her, "You can tell me anything, I'm your best friend. I would never tell anybody."

"I can't tell you." She mumbled.

I stood up and walked into the room, "Fine, keep secrets from me."

When I left, I heard talking out in the living room. I peeked behind the sofa and watched as two men came into our apartment. I stared, curious.

The taller one with blonde hair grabbed Alice's wrist, "How much did you tell her?"

Alice gulped and broke free, "I told her nothing! I wish I had though!"

The larger one grabbed her, "That's enough. You can't tell her anything, she's not worthy." He said in a deep, scratchy voice.

Alice struggled to get out of his grip, "I'm sick of working for you!"

I ducked beneath the couch. Working? Alice is working for those tough guys? Why are they in my house? I thought frantically.

"She knows too much!" The tall guy grabbed Alice by the hem of her shirt.

"She knows nothing! She doesn't know about you!" She yelled.

He set her down, "Where is she?"

"In the room, but don't go in there, I don't want her knowing about any of you." Alice warned them.

The large one butted in, "What if she heard us?! Saw us!"

I jerked my head back behind the sofa. I hit my head on the nearby table, making a sound.

"Boss!" The tall guy tapped the larger one's shoulder, "That sound, it- the girl!"

The boss threw Alice aside. She landed on the ground, bruised. He stomped over to my hiding spot, "Girl! You! How dare you eavesdrop!" He picked me up by my arm and threatened me, "Listen girl, don't you dare think of leaving now. You know too much, why, I'll have to hold you hostage. We wouldn't want you telling anyone now would we?"

"Rhea!" Alice tried to run to me, but was grabbed by the tall man. She wriggled lose and wrapped her arms around me, "Rhea, please. I'm so sorry this happened, I can't-"

"Shut up Alice." The boss scolded. "She deserves this, now butt out!"

Alice held me closer, "You can't do this to an angel! That is wrong! Evil!"

I looked at her, confused, "Angel?"

"Ha, I live to be evil!" The man laughed grimly.

My eyes widened, "What? What are guys talking about? Who are you guys? W-what angel?"

The boss stood up tall, "Why, excuse me, let me introduce myself, I am the boss, Mr. Heim, I rule over all demons in my tribe."

I sat there, speechless. I looked at Alice, "Uhh, what?"

Alice looked at me then at Mr. Heim, "Mister, please give me one day to explain everything to her. I won't let her tell a soul."

He thought it over, "Fine, but we'll be watching for everything out of the ordinary."

He stood up and left abruptly. The tall man followed.

I started to hyperventilate, "Alice, what is going on!" I yelled.

She looked at me "I didn't want this to happen, but Rhea you are a-"

"What?! What am I?"

"You're an Angel."

I stared at her, what was she talking about? Angel?
