I stood next to the stove, slowly mixing Cream of Wheat over the gas fire. I could barely concentrate today, Alice had explained parts of what was going on. I needed to know more, I still didn't understand.
I poured myself a bowl and placed some honey and raspberries on top. I sat down at the table and tried to figure out what she had told me the previous night. So, apparently I am an Angel. Definition: rare, beautiful creature that either descend from the heavens or rises up from the underworld. Their destiny is to help mortals on earth choose their path.
I sat in silence, Alice told me that I belonged to the Dark Angels, but that I was meant to be a Pure Angel. She said that my heart was pure, but I had been forced to live as dark. I cringed at this thought, me, dark? No way, I was a perfect student in school, I always helped others, and maybe sometimes I goofed off.
I cleaned my bowl and brought it to the sink. Alice walked in the room wearing a old T-shirt and leggings.
"Still in your pajamas?" I gestured to her messy outfit.
"Nah, I'm just staying home today, so might as well be comfy." She said plopping down at the table.
I handed her a bowl of cereal, Alice-style, and sat down next to her, "What other things can you tell me?"
She looked up from her bowl and swallowed a bite, "I can tell you everything once I finish eating."
I nodded and walked into the living room. I sat down on the couch, the same couch that I had been threatened behind the day before. Yesterday was a blur now, I couldn't remember what the men's faces looked like. I felt light-headed, trying to store all the information I had learned.
Alice put her dishes away and sat next to me, "So, let's start at the top of things," She announced, "Rhea, you are a part of the underworld, but are destined to help mortals to the pure side."
I repeated the same line from earlier, "My heart is pure, but I have been forced to live as dark."
She nodded, "Yes, you are a Pure Angel disguised as a Dark. You are very rare in this world, you're family was one of the only groups of Angels still alive after the battle."
"My family? My mother? She's an angel? What about my dad?" I said, not pausing for a breath.
"No, your real family. Those people you grew up with may think that you're their daughter, but in reality, you belong to Angels in the Dark tribe."
I stood up, "What? They aren't real parents?! What- then who are my parents?!" I tried to figure out what was the truth.
Alice stood up next to me, "Your parents are dead. They were killed in the past war, they ruled over the angelic kingdom. Now you must become queen and take charge. There will be a male angel chosen for you to marry."
"Marry? I'm barely 19!"
"I know, but you are the only heir to the throne, you must rule alongside a king." Alice sat back down.
I stood there like an idiot, "What do you mean? I just found out about all this and now I have to become queen of some creatures!"
Alice shook her head, "You are one of them. Your instincts will kick in soon, and you will know how to rule a kingdom of angels."
"Okay, so if there are barely any angels, does that mean that other tribes are being killed off?" I sat down next to her.
She thought it over, "Well no, not as much as the angels. Angels are the least skilled in fighting out of all the tribes, making them more vulnerable to the enemy."
