Ruby was doing her nails, I was petting the cat, trying to get her away from the window, and Jade was staring off in to space.

"Jaaaaadddee, you're missing all the fun. What's wrong?" I asked, making my best fake-pouty face. She snapped back to the real world and looked at me.

"Ah... Well... I was just thinking about... You know... The kids who went missing the other day. It's been on my mind for a while..." She finally replied. I frowned and Ruby looked our way. Even Hazel looked away from the window at us.

Three days before, boy and girl twins from our neighborhood went missing. There was no say whether they were dead or alive, or their whereabouts. It freaked people out more than it should have, only because it had happened several times before.

"Jade, why does this worry you?" Ruby asked, sitting up to let her nails dry. Jade shrugged and began petting Hazel.

"I just think it's strange. Dozens of kids from our neighborhood go missing, and nobody can find where they went. The police have searched literally all over town, and still haven't found any trace," she replied, looking out the window, only to directly face the Jefferson Street Mansion.

By the time we curled up to try to fall asleep, I thought about what Jade said. It was really strange that nobody could find those kids.

Was it just a coincidence that when she talked about the disappearances she looked at the Mansion? I asked myself, staring out the window in to the moonlight. I knew very well that the mansion was the only place that hadn't been searched. My brother worked as an officer, so he talked about the disappearances often. I was almost sure it was the only case going on at the time.

The Jefferson Street Mansion was abandoned, which everyone was sure of. It was burned in a house fire, yet it still stood strong. The man who lived in it, Norman Blair, was said to be long gone. Everyone thought he died in the fire along with his family, but the police and even I knew that wasn't true. His body nor his family's bodies were never found after the incident, so everyone just assumed they'd burned.

Everyone knew that Mr. Blair had some... Issues. Mental issues to be exact. He often talked about making humans in to dolls, and his only granddaughter, Anna, who was in her late twenties, was attacked by him and brought to the basement, where many tools awaited, but was luckily saved by her father.

When Mr. Blair wasn't in his psycho phase, he was actually a great person to talk to. I used to take walks with him and Anna all the time, and he'd start conversations, laugh, and sometimes we even made him cry from laughter.

It seemed that whenever he was around his entire family he turned crazy...

I woke up at 3:33 that morning to hear silent screams. Hazel was staring at me, and I assumed she wanted me to check it out. I carefully climbed over Ruby in her bed to the window and looked over at the Mansion across the street. Hazel climbed up next to me and looked over there too. I slowly opened the window, and the screams were a bit louder. I heard the slight noise of a chainsaw. My eyes widened and I shut the window a bit louder than I intended to.

"Jadeee...? Why the heck are you awake so freaking early...?" Jacqueline moaned.

I turned to her and went back to my own sleeping bag.

"It's nothing, Jackie."
