"Replaced"
When I went to pick my Emily up from daycare I was horrified to see her babysitter had been replaced. Just like the others she looked the same sounded the same, and heck, even smelled the same. But I could tell though; I can always tell when the people in my life had been replaced by imposters.
The real babysitter would have said Emily had been "wonderful" that day. The imposter instead said she had been "fantastic". Most people couldn't pick up these subtle details, but I saw right through them. I quickly snatched Emily out of her arms and ran, baby in hand, to my car.
After driving home I pulled into my driveway, got out of the car, and opened the back door to get Emily out of her car seat. I screamed when I when I saw even my baby had been replaced. My Emily had yellow hair and eyes like the ocean. This baby had blonde hair and eyes like the sky. More small details, but I saw through her lies too.
I carefully lifted her from the seat and placed her behind the wheel of the SUV. I calmly put the car in reverse and didn't step on the brakes until I heard a satisfying crunch.
