After talking to Emma about the tutoring session, I went outside and got in my car. The bright red color shine brightly in the sunlight.
I knew that I needed to get home quickly that way I could make myself presentable at Emma's house tonight and tell my mom where I was going.
When I got home, my mom was in the kitchen making cupcakes. She is always making some type of dessert, but I was definitely not complaining.
"Hey mom, I'm going over to Emma's house tonight to study," I said, leaning on the bar in front of her.
"Emma who?" She asked, putting the next batch into the oven.
"Emma Clarke, her family just moved back in," I said, nonchalantly.
"Oh, okay," she smiled, winking, "Have fun, but not too much."
I ran upstairs before she could see me blush at her comment. I got a quick shower. As soon as I got out, I got changed into a red polo and jeans. I brushed my hair out and pulled on my red vans.
I went into my bedroom and sprayed some cologne on and grabbed my phone charger and shoved my phone in my pocket.
When I got back downstairs, my mom had three sets of cupcakes on the counter. When she turned around, she whistled at me.
"Someone's all dressed up!" She smirked at me.
"Not really, it's just a t-shirt and jeans," I said as ran a hand through my hair, attempting to mess it up just a little bit to prove my point.
"Oh no," my mom shook her head, "You look really good. You like this Emma girl, don't you?"
"Mom!" I said, embarrassed, "I barely know the girl. It's just for tutoring."
"Hmm hm," she smirked, "Says the guy that's been in math competitions since he was six."
"She doesn't have to know that," I said quickly.
I checked my phone and Emma had sent me the directions to her house and it was 6:45. I decided I might as well go ahead and leave.
"Have fun sweetie," my mom said before I left, still trying to make hints at me liking Emma.
When I finally got to Emma's, I knocked on the door. I was slightly nervous that I had dressed up too much or that her dad would answer with a gun in hand. Not five seconds later, Emma swung the door open. She had on a pink t-shirt and gray sweatpants. Her hair was in a messy bun, but she still looked great.
"You're lucky I didn't have my headphones in, otherwise you would have had to dealt with my mom," she laughed.
"Yeah, I appreciate it," I smiled.
When we went inside, there were boxes everywhere. Furniture was all set up, but boxes were basically sitting on every surface. I had forgotten they just moved back. I guess they just left this house and bought all new stuff wherever they went.
"We can go study in my room, it's quieter there," she said.
Just as we were about to go upstairs, a voice stopped us.
"Emma, who's your friend?" Her mother asked, rounding the corner.
"Mom, this is Austin. I'm tutoring him in math," Emma said, standing in front of me.
I smiled at her mom and she looked pretty strict. My smile dropped after a moment.
"If I hear anything else besides studying up there-" she started.
