Loud

It is nearly 1.30 am when I hear my three bestfriends open the front gate. How do I know it's them? Well, this is the time they usually got home. I'm used to it. I rarely go out at night as I'm the kind of person who loves to stay in and do my work. I'm a writer, you see. I love to be alone and think about creative ideas for my new novel.

Tonight is quiet and peaceful. Just the way I like it. No sounds of cars or motorcycles. So peaceful that I could hear the sounds of..nothing. I'm staying in a double storey house. There are three bedrooms upstairs and one bedroom downstair. I choose to stay alone dowstairs. I love privacy. Who doesn't? My room is situated near the living room so I will know whoever goes in or out of the house.

I am quite preoccupied with my work right now so I don't bother going out of my room to join them at the living room. They are chatting and laughing histerically, like always. I could hear them clearly from my room. I could hear every single word they say.

I keep focusing on my work and ignore the noises that they are making. You know girls. Gossiping is one of our hobby. You cannot get through a day without one hot gossip to share. I keep staring at my laptop screen with no ideas in my mind. Writer's block they say. No. This is not writer's block. My friends are too loud that I cannot concentrate to write. Oh god, I have to complete this tonight.
I can hear them talking about boys or something.

"He's a jerk.." said one of my friend.
"Yeah, we know.." the others replied.

I try to ignore them again. I should focus. I need to submit at least 15 pages of my work to the editor in order for them to review. I have finished 13 pages. Two more and I can join them outside. It's only 2am. It is still early for us. Besides, tomorrow is already Friday. I can get a day off on Saturday and continue my work on Sunday.

Their voices are distracting enough as they keep chatting on and on and now I can hear they are talking about food. I can hear clearly the word 'hungry', and 'eat'. Typical. As I continue typing, my phone rings. My friend's name appear. I put down the phone and starts to yell, "Ohh come on guys! I'll be right out. I just have to finish this one!".

I can hear them laughing loudly, histerically. The laughter continues and the voices keeps getting rougher everytime. In between the laughter, I can hear one of my friends are saying the word 'soul'. And then the other says 'blood'. Suddenly the laughter stops and silence fills the air. I keep listening as to what my friends will say. I know that they plan to prank me and they will fail. I already know their plans. I overheard them talking about it last week.

For about 5 minutes I wait for them to talk or make any noise. Without warning, I hear one of my friend says,

"She knows....."
"Rip...apart...her..soul..when..she comes..out..."
"Rip..apart..when..all.....is..dark.." the other says.
"DO YOU HEAR US?" Then there's laughter. Evil laughter.

They're trying to scare me. I know. I cannot take this anymore. So this is the prank that they have planned. I shut down my laptop and quickly get up. As I walk to the door, I grab my phone. I can still hear them laughing. What a friend. I open the door as fast as I can in order to suprise them.

And all I can see is darkness. No one is in the living room. No one. The only light visible is from my room. A sound of beep from my phone breaks the silence. I nearly drop the phone.

Hey babe, we're still at Wayne's party. Be back late. Love xoxo

I drop the phone, feeling weak and terrified, as I hear a voice behind me says,

Rip..apart..when..all..is..dark..

And then the only lights in my room go out........
