She stood a distance away, her fists clenched tightly. Cold hard reality hit her as she felt the weight sink into her heart. He broke his promise. The one and only promise she needed someone to keep. Tears built in her eyes. How she longed to step forward and talk to him. Speak to him. His happy smile lit up the room he was in. Four other boys were standing there, patting him on his back. She stared at him, adoration clearly pronounced in her eyes. However, the nagging backdrop of hurt and disappointment soon took over.

Leaning against the brick wall, her fingers were pressed against the glass. She had been standing there for the past two hours, waiting for a sight of him. Never would she miss this opportunity. It has been years. Two years of missing him, aching for him to return. Even if it meant standing outside this tall building watching him from afar, it was better than nothing. Just knowing he was fine was all she needed.

He looked up, bright green eyes sparkling. There was a split second contact made. She hit her back against the wall, face away from the window. “No,” she murmured. He could not find her.

“One sec, Max!” His clear Gloucester accent rang through the air.

She turned her back on the building and ran. Wind blew fiercely past her as a blur of images surrounded her. Once she knew she was away from him, she stopped.

“Now that was fun,” her voice dripped with sarcasm. She had finally found him after two long years. She hated him so much for leaving, for not saying goodbye. For leaving her alone without someone for company. And mostly, for not keeping his promise.

The question now was, whether to show herself or not. And if so, how?
