It was December; the month of frost, ice and snow. Cold wind blew harshly as I opened the door to Starbucks, my hand shivering. Sweet aroma of freshly brewed coffee sailed through the air. I took my seat near the window after ordering the usual black coffee. Twirling my blonde hair around my fingers, I looked out of the misty window, just managing to make out the passers-by on the street. A light tap on my shoulder caused me to snap out of my daydream. Looking up, I saw a pair of chocolate brown eyes staring straight at me.

“Sorry Miss, is anyone sitting here?” he asked while gesturing to the seat opposite me. I shook my head with a small smile. The man looked like he was in his early twenties. A green cap was placed neatly on his head. Showing his straight white teeth, he sat down with a quiet ‘thanks’.

“Amy!” the girl at the counter called out, placing a cup of black coffee on the cashier counter. Pushing my chair out, I collected my coffee, exiting the shop into the cold icy streets. My hands gripped the small cup tightly, letting it warm my body up. Walking through the streets of London, unfamiliar surroundings captured my attention. The familiar blue and white building loomed over me, making me smile at it. This place held so many memories. It was the place I first met him; him being Nathan Sykes.

It was several years ago, when I met him at my aunt’s flat in London. I grabbed my mother’s collar, burying my head into her neck. She carried me tightly, sensing my unease. My shy side was currently forcing its way through me; the confident level-headed façade had long dropped. It was always like this. Meeting new people just gave me the chills. The five year old boy was staring at me, his pale green eyes full of amusement while my four year old self was too shy to even make eye contact, much less talk to him.

My mother crouched down, placing me on the ground gently. Nathan stepped forward, hands shoved deeply in his pockets. My tiny fingers were gripped onto the fabric of my mother’s shirt, refusing to let go. Obviously, he was the first to start the conversation.

“Hi, I’m Nathan…” he trailed off. I was slowly turning towards him, unsure of everything. His clear voice was soothing to a certain extent, and his charismatic smile was more than welcoming. Being a four-year-old girl, it was one of the first times a boy was polite to me. Boys did live to their reputation to make life living hell for everyone.

My little voice squeaked out, “Amelia.” He smiled, finally getting an answer out of me. His extended hand was waiting long enough, so I shook it. The rest was a blur as we got to know each other. Safe to say, we were best friends within a day.

I sighed, looking up at my late aunt’s flat. That place held so many memories; so many memories of Nath and me. A sigh slipped out of my mouth after taking a trip down memory lane. They were, such happy memories. I must have stood there for more than 10 minutes, shaking my head before I could get to the sad depressing part of my fourteenth. The chill wind blew across my face, my scarf billowing behind me.

I turned my back on that building, increasing pace as I walked towards my own home. Aroma of fresh brewed coffee filled my nostrils, urging me to take a sip occasionally. It slowly woke me up, clearing my mind.

Finally, I reached my own small home. The door opened to reveal a small cozy room inside.  My phone in my pocket buzzed as I dug it out.

“1 message, Kylie”

“Hey girl! We’re going out to the pub tonight wana come?”

I smiled, remembering the girls. It has been a long while since I’ve last seen them. Without hesitation, I replied a simple yes.

It was going to be a great night. No more thoughts about Nathan. No more. Time to get drunk!
