"CRAAASHHH!"

Damn it Nicole, can't you do anything right!?

I just looked at her, then down to my feet where a plate had fallen.

Mom I’m sorry, look I'll clean it up before I go to school.

"YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT YOU WILL, I WORK ALL NIGHT AND THEN COME HOME TO THIS!?!"

Ignoring her typical speech I cleaned up the shattered glass and went on to get dressed; i really didn’t have time for her crap, being late as I was.

5minutes later I walked out of the only bathroom in our small one bedroom apartment. Mom's boyfriend was sleeping and God knows i don't want to see that.As I went to pick up my messenger bag on my way out, I heard her.

"Oh well don't you look pretty today, I guess you'll be following in the family business huh?"

I looked down at my black skinny jeans that i had layered with a blue and white striped top. My gladiator sandals completed the look and i wore my silver heart shaped earrings with a stud in my top piercing.

I shivered at the thought of EVER becoming what she is.

i cursed myself for decided on taking the bus today; every time I got dressed up and walked the streets of my neighborhood…well let’s just say I wasn’t exactly safe. I got eye raped like crazy by the old pervs and thugs on the street corners. Last time I barely got away.

Everyone expects me to follow in my mother's path, but i don't want to, my dream is to be a counselor to help women like her. When i told her this dream she just laughed in my face, she said women are meant to be men's tools in order to survive.

Shaking my head to erase the memory like an Etch-A-Sketch i boarded the bus, nodded at the bus driver who knew me as a regular, and sat down. I turned on my I-pod and blasted Break Away, by Kelly Clarkson. Usually i'd go for more hard core stuff, but i've been feeling really down lately.

Finally i got to school and immediatly went to the Quad to meet up with my girls.

"NICOLE!! "

"Ok Amy...ok down girl" i laughed as she tackled me.

"Alright!” said Rick

“some girl on girl action",

blushing deeply, I stood up and death stared him.

"Rick sweetie, do you always have to be a jerk?" i asked.

“Why yes… yes i do my lady”, he said, kissing my cheek.

Amy squealed in delight,

"oh you guys are too cute"

Rick and I groaned in unison. Amy had gotten us together, and she never let us forget it.

"Okay", i said "How bout we get ourselves some knowledge huh?"

"Aw, you’re no fun Nicki" Amy whinned,

rolling my eyes i pushed her along to class.

"OH I SEE HOW IT IS!, i guess i'll see you at lunch" Rick called after us, i stuck my tongue out at him and waved over my shoulder.

"Ok class, today we're gonna learn about how to excite electrons" said the teacher

the entire class groaned in unison and i quickly zoned out, drawing my dream life in a notebook.

"RIIIIING" the bell brought me back to reality and I quickly rushed out the door to lunch.

"I would kill for a bacon cheeseburger right now", said Amy as she linked elbows with me. We entered the cafeteria and immediately scanned the room for Rick and the others.

"Found em!" shouted Amy, and she dragged me to them.

"Heyy Nicks, Ams, what goes on chicas?"

“Dylan you hobo, where were you this morning!?”shouted Amy “you too Denise"

They shared a 'look' and smiled

"We just had stuff to do, thats all" said Denise.

"Yeah, so can we eat now please?" added Dylan

We all headed to the line and came out with our trays of ‘food’i guess would be the word for the goop on my plate.

"Nicooooooole?" whined Amy, "will you get me some ketchup?"

groaning loudly i stood up and headed toward the condiment table.

Halfway there someone stepped infront of me, blocking my path. i tried to sidestep around them but they moved with me, once again blocking my path. I looked up and saw Shawn Carson smirking down at me. Smirking at him i pushed him away.

Shawn was known for playing arounf too much. He cupped my face with his hands and made me look up at him.

"Like mother like daughter huh?"

My eyes widened as he pulled me to him and started kissing my neck. I tried to push him away, but he had a tight grip on me.

"Hey!”I heard someone shout

,get your hands off my girlfriend!"

I turned around to see Rick, with a menacing look on his face.

“And if I don’t?" said Shawn as he groped me.

At that i pulled away and stood as far away from Shawn as i could.

"Aw Nicole that wasn't very nice running away from me, i'll catch up with you later" Shawn said with a wink, making me shudder.

"I said you're not to go near her again!" snarled Rick.

Shawn then got in Rick's face as the entire cafeteria started chanting "fight!, fight!, fight!"I stood there in a trance as i watched this scene...feeling helpless.
