When we reach the great hall of Hogwarts, we all shuffle to our tables, I immediately head to the Slytherin table. I always disagreed with the sorting hats choice for my house. Going into Hogwarts in my first year I always believed I was going to be sorted into Ravenclaw, I always enjoyed reading, the way characters came alive and hopped off the pages, the imagination needed to fulfill the book, and make it as good as the author intended. I also read a lot of spare text books that were kept around my and the Malfoy's house.  Of course, I knew that you not only needed to be smart to be a Ravenclaw, you needed to be witty, creative, and original, I also have those traits.

I don't understand why I sit at the Slytherin table, the house is usually home to students who exhibit such traits as cunning, resourcefulness and ambition. Not that this are bad traits to have they just don't belong to me. I sigh and sit in tight, tangled mess in between two people I couldn't care to learn the names of. A sea of conversation sail into my ears all are disembodied and homeless. I just stare at the smooth wooded tables. The opening feast is my least favorite part of the school year, as much as I like being alone, it's hard to see everyone re-connect with their friends, excitedly tell them stories of the summer, I can't do that. The most exciting story from the summer is when I finished three large books in a time span of two weeks, and the closest thing I have to a friend are the house elves and their to scared to say any more than two sentences to me.

After a few moments of silence someone taps lightly on my shoulder. I turn my head to see my cousin, Draco, "hey," he scratches his head, "uh- why don't you come sit with us." he says in a low voice. I glance over at the seats that his friends usually occupy. They all have their necks craned glancing me. "Sure I guess." I say in an equally low voice. I cringe at myself, thoughts rush to my head, what if this is a prank? What if they start calling me names like 'loner' or 'desperate'. I clench my jaw, regretting my agreement.

When I get to the bench I slowly take a seat next to Draco. Before any conversation starts, Dumbledore rose to his feet, and walked to the podium. "Well, now that we are all digesting another magnificent feast, I beg a few moments of your attention for the usual start of term notices." Dumbledore says. He rambles into his usual ordeal and I zone out of the conversation, That is until a woman wearing an unusual amount of pink steps up to the microphone. "Thank you headmaster." she says, her voice high and pitchy, overly doused in fake sweetness.

"-Am very much looking forward to getting to know you all, and I'm sure we'll be very good friend." Subconsciously I let out a snort, causing Pansy to turn to me, flashing me a weird look.

The pink woman cleared her throat in an obnoxious way ("hem, hem"), she continues to ramble about the Ministry of Magic and the position they have stationed her in this school.

I mentally groan, this woman will not make a good defense against the dark arts teacher, she's just to. . . perky.

Once the speech finishes I stay with Draco's group of friends as we head back to the common room, it's very tense and akward as I stand here, without my cousin, he was really the only reason why I wondered over to there group.

I wake up the next morning tangled with my sheets, I quickley get dressed into my robes and head of to the great hall, I'm very eager and anxious to start the school year, I've been waiting all summer just to step back into Hogwarts.

I sit alone at the Slytherin table with an open potions textbook and silently read for a few peaceful minutes, but soon enough my peace is disrupted as the seats around me fill up. I remove my glance from my book and see, Draco and his pack sitting around me. I flash them a quick, closed-mouth smile and akwardly put my textbook back into my bag.

I join in on some of there conversations and realize, maybe having friends this year won't be so bad...
