Italy's P.O.V.
It was 12:37 pm when I landed in my country. I felt like a weight had lifted from my body, spirit, and mind. Everything became clearer the second I stepped onto Italian soil. I felt welcomed, at peace, and at home. I felt as if all of my troubles just left me in an instant. I had been away for much too long. You see, when a country is away from his or her own territory, it wears on them greatly. Their minds become clouded and their bodies weak. It seems as if they fade away slowly if they are away from their own country for too long. The longer they are away, the more danger they put themselves in. At some point, going home is imperative to their survival. If they grow weak enough, even a country can be killed as easily as a mortal. And we can't have that.
As soon as I stepped off the plane and into Italian territory, I could breathe better, think clearer, and stand straighter. Everything became simple and a permanent smile graces my face. I entered the airport, got my bags from luggage claim, and found a seat. I sit down my bags and just breathe for a few minutes. The one thing I hated about flying is the jet lag. I am always so tired after a long flight.
After I've had time to cool down, I get out my phone and dial the number of an old friend. She picks up on the second ring. "Ciao, Feliciano! It's been a long time!" Hearing her voice brings me great joy. "Ciao, Myra! Indeed it has been." Myra Arquette and her family have been friends of mine and my kin for a very long time. Her family owns the bar I work at. They are my second home; and to them, I am like a son, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin. "It's great to hear your voice! Pardon my asking, but is there a reason you're calling?" She asks me. "Actually yes, there is. I'm at the airport in Rome, and I was wondering if you might be able to-"
"YOU'RE HOME?! OH DIO MIO I WILL BE THERE IN 10 MINUTES." She then hangs up. I take my phone away from my ear and smile, shaking my head. It had been near to 5 years since I've seen her. When I saw them last, her sister Annie had just found out she was pregnant, her brothers Freddy and Eddie (the twins) had moved to America and started their own individual companies, her other brother Carlos had just graduated high school with a full scholarship to college, her daughter Elise had just started preschool, and her niece Evette had turned 10. I can only imagine how much they've all grown! I can't wait to see them again, oh dio mio! 10 minutes later, I get a call from Myra. "Feli! I'm at luggage claim number 3. Meet me here. I've brought a few people who are pretty excited to see you." "Alright! I'm on my way now!" I hang up the phone and grab my things, running to the luggage claim.
When I get to 3, I look everywhere for them. I circle the luggage claim and see them nowhere. I then hear someone call my name. "Feliciano!" I turn on my heels and see nearly the whole family running towards me, smiles covering all of their faces, their arms open wide. They all embrace me warmly, choruses of "Welcome home!" And "where have you been?!" We all break apart, and I look over everyone. I see Evette, now a 14 year old young lady. she was about 5'4" wearing black glasses with big brown eyes and a kind smile. I gasp at how much she has grown. Then embrace her warmly. "You've grown so much! Last time I saw you, you were a small girl, now you're a beautiful young lady, Dio Mio! I can assume your Quinces is coming up soon, am I right?" She smiles largely at me and nods. "Yes it is, Zio! Will you be staying for it?" "Of course I am! I wouldn't miss it!" She smiles and hugs me once again.
