I de-weaponized and met dad in his study. He had a pair of gloves on and was examining the cross necklace under a microscope. He sighed.

"Whoever is doing this, they're good. No fingerprints or anything. No hair follicles, or even skin follicles. But of course, not as good as you, Evie." He kissed my cheek.

I felt grateful for having a great dad like him. Sure, he trained me until I couldn't breathe, but he shaped me inti a warrior, and I was glad. But now was not the time to be grateful. Now was the time to be mad at the mysterious killer.

"Tomorrow we're getting a new student at school. That might be the killer." I suggested.

Dad jerked his head up as if he had an idea. "I know! He will probably be wearing another cross at school, to ward of potential vampires like you will. Before you see him, take off your cross and stick it in your pocket or something. Then, flinch at his cross, and then he will try to kill you, then you tell him that you're a hunter too. But don't confront him about you and his kills clashing."

"That is actually a great idea, dad." I hugged him. "Thanks. And goodnight."

"Goodnight, Evie."

And that was that.

That morning I dressed in black skinny jeans, a black lace tank top, and black high heel boots. This was so I didn't have to stand on my tiptoes to kiss my boyfriend. Oh yeah, something else I forgot to mention: I have a boyfriend. His name is Asher and we have been dating for a year now. He was also a vampire hunter, and he killed in the next town over. He knew how I was about people stealing my kills. Sometimes, if there was a big clan, like say, fifteen, we would go together and split the money.

Anyway, Asher had stark white hair and brown eyes. He dressed in black like me.

I walked downstairs, pulling my hair up into a messy bun and sticking a pencil through it. My hair was not thick or thin, but in the middle.

"Bye, dad!" I yelled as I walked out the door, grabbing my backpack. I was dad's walking alarm, and he hated it. As soon as the door shut, his feet hit the floor. It was routine.

I took off my cross and shoved it in my pocket, then hopped into Asher's car, kissed him good morning, and we drove off to school.

Rule number three: try to befriend other hunters. This could help you in kills, and to also warm them to not tread on your territory.
