What happened was something you weren't expecting to happen at all. Innocent Kaneki Ken turned into a ghoul, stayed, then left. He was your friend, he was your lover, he was your everything. Why did Kaneki leave you? Why did he go and join Aogiri? Simple, so he can protect the ones dear to him.
'Bullshit'. You thought while you were walking down the sidewalk to Anteiku Cafe. 'He could have stayed and protected us from here'. Yes you were heartbroken but you were also pissed off. That's one thing you have in common with Touka. In all honesty you never really liked the purple headed female from the first day you met her. Touka Kirishima was her full name. You knew she liked Kaneki even after she found out you both were dating, but after Kaneki left you both actually bonded. So you can say you don't like her but you can't say that you hate her. You've also been spending a lot of time with Kaneki's best friend Hide. The three of you were like the three musketeers. Now that Kaneki is gone you don't know what to do with your life. Do you move on and find somebody else? You didn't want to that's for sure.
You reached Anteiku and opened the door. Hinami smiled and welcomed you. "Konichiwa nee-san!" Smiling you nodded and sat at a table. Distracted by watching the snow falling from the outside you didn't even notice a certain someone sitting across from you. Feeling a light tap on your hand you looked up to see Uta. You met him through some of the others that worked in the cafe. "Hello Uta" you said softly. "Good evening (YN), is everything alright?" He asked. Looking down you replied, "No I'm the same everyday after Kaneki left" Uta nodded and grabbed you hand. Standing up he said, "Come with me" Confused you stood and followed him back to his place. "What are we doing here?" You asked sitting on a stool. Uta sat in front of you and started sketching. "You want to see Kaneki again right? The way to do so is to enter the war between humans and ghouls." "Bu-" He cut you off. "I'm going to design a mask for you so you can protect you identity and when Kaneki see's it he will know who designed it so he'll know that you are someone he knows." You smiled and couldn't wait.

Your lungs burned from running. You saw smoke in the area where Anteiku was. As you approached the cafe you saw roaring flames shooting out from the windows. "NOOO" you yelled and broke into tears. "Hey you!" You turned around to see three CCG investigators. Seeing how their weapons were drawn it was time to fight. "YOU DID THIS!" You screamed running at them. Your kagune whipped out as you ran towards the men. Getting ready with their weapons to attack back you quickly vanished but then reappeared behind them and slashed their backs, making them fall to the ground. Blinded by anger and tears you finished the men off. A piece of cake, they were nothing but beginners that didn't stand a chance. Standing up you noticed a figure in your periferal vision. Turning you saw Kaneki. Your eyes opened wide, "K-Kaneki" you said as you pulled off your mask. He didn't say anything, he just stood there with an emotionless face. "KANEKI!" You yelled and ran up to him. You hugged him but he didn't return it. Pulling away you could feel tears stinging your eyes along with the ash that fell from the burnt building. "Kaneki why did you leave? You could have stayed here." He still said nothing. Your hands balled into fists. "KANEKI KEN I ORDER YOU TO ANSWER ME!"
Kaneki looked down for a moment like he was thinking on what to say before looking back up to you. He then started walking up to you. You slowly backed up, "Kaneki stop...stop right where you are!" But he didn't listen. Once he was in arms reach Kaneki grabbed your write wrist and pulled you into a kiss. Your eyes widened and before you could kiss back he pulled away. Gently grasping your face with his hands he looked deep into your eyes. "I didn't leave because I wanted to, I left because I had to. To protect you and the others." He said. Pulling you into a hug he whispered, "I'll always love you with all my heart and I promise that one day we will reunite and spend the rest of our days together....I promise." With that Kaneki kissed your forehead and turned away. Tears welted in your eyes as you watched him walk away. "Kaneki" you sobbed. "I love you so much please don't leave me!" But by then he was out of sight and out of hearing range. You sat in the cold silence until you heard footsteps walking up to you. Looking up you saw Touka reaching out for your hand. You hesitated but took it and stood up. Touka then hugged you, "It's going to be ok." You gave a slight nodded and you both walking way. A few weeks later you and Touka attended to Hide's funeral.
Years past and you're in your early to mid 20's. You and Touka rebuilt Anteiku Cafe and are both share the part of manager. Today was your day, you had to work while Touka got the day off. It was a slow day you and Hinami were cleaning up a bit when suddenly the little bell on top of the door gave a rang. "WELCO-" Himani gasped. "Hinami is everything o-"... Turning around you saw a man. No not just any man. Kaneki Ken. "K-Kane-ki?" You couldn't believe your eyes. The man seemed confused at your question. "Hmm I think you might have me confused with someone else mam'. My name is Sasaki Haise." He smiled...
