"How are you feeling today, Louis?" Dr. Reynolds asked as he entered the room.
"Alright," I whispered. My hair was starting to fall out and mouth sores were beginning to appear. I also had a hard time eating, I just wasn't hungry.
"How have you been doing this week? Any problems or complications you'd like to discuss?" Dr. Reynolds questioned.
"Not that I can think of," I shrugged unenthusiastically, wishing I was at home with my family instead of here.
"Good, good. And have you experienced any of the side effects of the chemotherapy drugs yet?"
"Hair loss, mouth sores, and loss of appetite," I replied quietly.
"Alrighty," he said and scribbled a few things down onto a piece of paper. "Now, concerning the loss of appetite, even though you aren't hungry, have you still been eating three meals a day?"
I tried to think back on the past week, hoping I could remember when I stopped becoming hungry and if I was still eating.
"I may have skipped one of two meals, maybe," I stated, not entirely sure if my answer was accurate.
"Not too bad. But you do need to continue eating like you would on a regular day. Staying healthy and keeping regular eating habits is crucial for this part of the chemotherapy. Just try the best you can to keep eating, alright?"
I just nodded in response.
"Okay, now I'm going to just check your blood pressure and all that and then take a bit of blood to run a quick test," Dr. Reynolds informed me.
He laid his hand on my wrist, checking my pulse and then used his stethoscope to listen to my heart beat. After that, he checked my blood pressure, eyesight, and looked in my mouth to check the sores and make sure there wasn't anything irregular about those.
"Looks like everything is working and in good shape," Dr. Reynolds stated as he went back to his desk and typed a few things on the computer. It was silent for a few moments before he turned back to me and then smiled. "Now I'll do the blood test."
I gulped, fearing this part. I hated needles.
He went over to the table at the back of the room and grabbed an alcohol wipe, then proceeded to wipe off the spot on my arm where he would be drawing blood.
Guys I've never had my blood drawn so if this is wrong just ignore it bc I have to clue how this even works lol
He then returned to the table and grabbed a syringe and a test tube. He walked back towards me and looked at me expectantly.
"Ready?" Dr. Reynolds asked. I nodded and gulped, screwing my eyes shut and waiting for the familiar prick of the needle. "One, two, three."
I winced as the needle came in contact with my skin and bit my lip, hoping to keep myself from whimpering more. I just tried to focus on anything but he pain in my arm, waiting for it to be over.
After about thirty seconds, the pain subsided and I released the breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Done," Dr. Reynolds stated. I opened my eyes to see him inserting my blood into the test tube. He then grabbed a cork from the table, put it in the top of the tube, discarded the needle, and then turned to me.
"I'll be back with your test results soon."
Sorry for the long wait. I had a bit of the chapter done but then I went backpacking and I didn't have wifi for five days so I couldn't update and I didn't really have time to write but I'll be updating again ASAP I promise
