Sophie Esinberg's POV
"Where are you taking me?", I questioned in annoyance as Raymond tugged me outside the buzzing hall. His fingers still intertwined with mine.
"Raymond!", I heard a voice coming from behind us and his steps slowed down before coming to a stop. Raymond's body felt tensed, like he was holding his restrain.
We both turned around to approaching Sharon. "The reporters are waiting for you outside the ceremony hall", she said pointing at the grand hallway.
"I have some important matters to look after", he replied, his voice thick.
"What could be more important than this?", Sharon questioned with a look.
Raymond's tongue traced his lower lip, and he half closed his eyes and if reminding himself to calm down.
"Sophie", he replied sternly. And apparently the look that he gave to Sharon did its work. Some kind of understanding passed between the two and she nodded telling him that she will try to delay the reporters.
"What about me?", I asked as Raymond started to move again towards the elevator.
We reached the elevator and he punched in penthouse as the door closed. All this while Raymond didn't let me hand go. And him not answering to my questions was just making me mad.
"You don't have to hold my hand right now, No one is seeing us", we were inside an empty elevator for heaven's sake.
"I know, but I want to", he replied like a fact.
"You can't say things like that", I repeated my sentence from earlier. When was he going to stop saying things that made my heart flutter?
"You can't kiss me like that", he said. That shut me up.
So this was about the kiss. I knew I shouldn't have kissed him like that, if it was me on the other end I would have made a huge fuss about it, knowing fully that my body wanted more.
But when it came to Raymond my body always betrayed my mind anyway.
"Soaf, we're literally lying to the entire world out there. We cannot be lying to each other too", I knew that already but where was he going with that?
I looked at him with disbelief, talking about lies after breaking me into pieces with all those false promises and charades.
"Because you're so good at telling the truth?", I felt anger simmering inside me and I held onto it. Anger was better than the desire I felt a few minutes ago. Anger would keep me grounded.
"Fuck", he leaned against the wall inside the elevator and loosened his tie even more.
"You kissed me because you didn't want Bethany to belittle you"
I clutched the side of my gown in my right hand. "Maybe.", I replied.
How long was this elevator ride anyway? I wanted to put some distance between Raymond and myself, that was the only way I was going to survive this. The closer Raymond got to hammering my defenses the more I risked of him seeing how much damage he did to me.
"I am not having this conversation in an elevator. Why is it taking so god damn long? ", he said as he muttered a curse under his breath.
My heart thudded loudly inside my chest as the elevator dinged and the doors opened. I followed him down the huge alley of the Hotel and then through the door he opened.
He dropped my hand as he shut the door behind him and I walked in taking in the grand penthouse he was staying at. I'd never been in here, and Raymond had been inside my Hotel suite a handful of times. Why were discussing strategies in my tiny suite all this time when he had this grand penthouse to himself?
