Laura gave Sam a glass of orange juice after her offer, turning and pouring the liquid into a clear glass and handed it to her cousin. Sam barely grabbed the glass before she then dragged Sam into the guest bedroom. Laura had insisted her younger cousin stay at her house, at least while she waited for her other furniture, the bigger bits that would be coming in the Rent U-hauls in a few days. Sam was only that much more grateful for the offer and thrilled at the idea of spending a little quality time with her cousin. It had been years since either of them had managed to do so.
The room was wide and spacious. The walls a lukewarm homie sort of green color and there were two potted plants on either side of the two transom windows on the opposite end of the bedroom. The full sized bed was laid out with a set of beige and green sheets and a thick fluffy quilt that looked as though it weighed much more than its size. It was high off the floor and Sam made a slight jump to sit atop it, at the edge of the bed as her cousin smiled warmly in her direction. Laura's hands went to her hips for a moment as she watched her younger cousin's silent take in of the lovely spare bedroom.
"What do you think?" She asked, wondering if the room was too much or as boring as she had thought it might be for a twenty-three-year-old. Sam immediately glanced up and smiled wide as she answered.
"It's absolutely lovely Laura. Are you sure this is ok though?" She still couldn't help feeling like an intruder, something she'd been attempting to stop doing since leaving her father's house a few hours before. Laura shook her head and stared hard at the young woman in front of her. She slapped one leg and lightly spoke.
"I'm going to head into the shower and start getting ready for tonight. It's eight now, we should be ready by ten, and knowing Evan, he'll be here by 9:59, the man is punctual, a quality most would love except for nights like these. Find something you'd wear on a night out and about ok. I want to make your night an I'M A HIP NEW YORKER type of a night, ok?!!"
Laura grinned as she pointedly ignored the first statement her cousin had said and the question with her directions. Sam slowly glanced in her direction again, a crinkle in between her eyes as she said, "But I'm not hip or a New Yorker..."
"No one knows that but us, Sammy and no one will after tonight, I promise you that girl. Now get unpacked and find something...if you don't find anything you have my permission to raid my closest. Now let me go shower, then it's your turn." Laura shimmed off to the bathroom, a swag in her step, her hand on her hip, as she said, "You're going to never want to leave New York Sammy...it's all glam and lovely, that's what this city is!!!"
She giggled, and Sam laughed, as Laura walked out of the room, down the small corridor and closed the bathroom door behind her. The walk was straight out of a runway, and with Laura's ample legs, lovely waist line and good looks, there was no doubt she could be mistaken for a model. Sam, on the other hand, was anything but.
What am I going to wear? I don't own anything glam. She lifted one of the luggage cases up onto her temporary bed and unzipped it. Throwing the flap open, she stood over her case, entirely lost on what she could possibly wear for tonight. God what am I doing? This isn't me.
This was the first time since Sam had stepped off the bus into New York that she began doubting her decision. She wasn't the type of girl to go out and glam it up, the most she did on a rare night out back home was wear a pair of heels, and dangling earrings. And maybe jeans and any shirt that didn't have a logo in the front. She knew somehow that that just wasn't enough for New York glamour. About a half an hour later, Laura stepped into Sam's room, her hair wrapped up in a towel, dressed in a hip hugging black tub dress, with a v cut top and six-inch black leather heels on. Laura with pale skin, dark green eyes, and beautiful cheek bones had every feature any normal woman would kill for. The woman resembled a high-end model and that was saying something.
