harry was good with hospitals. they didn't scare him -- he could live with the smell. or die with it, but let's look on the bright side. he had punched a mirror once and went to a&e to get all the glass removed, but that's it. he had visited people in hospital; aunts and uncles and distant cousins.
three weeks was all it took to change that, though. "i'll call home," the nurse gave him a cup of water and left the room, heading towards the front desk. the headache pounded behind his eyes. lights and windows were painful to look at. he tipped the water away and played with the ice-pack she had given him. what did she expect him to do, stick it up his nose?
there were two other people waiting outside the nurse's office; a sniffling blonde haired girl and a boy with a bowl in his lap. harry felt bad for wasting the nurse's time, but it was too late to run back to class, and he wouldn't have been able to concentrate anyway.
ten minutes later, he was at home, doped up on paracetamol and lying in his room with the lights off and the curtains taped shut.

someone knocked on the door. "harry? i'm just heading off to the shops if you..." it was his mum. she crossed the dark room to lay a hand on his forehead. "you want some ice-cream?" she asked. like cold things could stop the pain behind his eyes. "no," he groaned, batting her hand away and pushing his face further into the pillow. "it won't help." tell you what might help; a bullet. "have fun at the shops."

nick: u ok mate

nick: rly? is this because of pe today?! ur missing lunch come in

nick: god fine u gayboy

eventually, he got bored of lazing around and found a pair of sunglasses to wear. the house was empty so naturally he went to the fridge and got himself an energy drink. checked his phone -- ignored nick -- and went back to bed, dragging his socked feet along the carpet. in the dark, harry could barely make out his rocket ship curtains and cardboard boxes of books. they weren't in a great place financially, but his mum worked three separate jobs and gemma (secretly) sold some dodgy stuff to some dodgy people.
