John and I have been a couple for six months now, today is our anniversary. I really hope that my gift to him is what he wants. He is taking me to a little Italian bistro downtown. I'm so excited!!
I picked out a red mini dress and black wedges for the occasion. I was about to burst with excitement, when I heard John pull up.
He didn't bother to knock, since he lives here. He had just gone to retrieve the rest of his things from his mothers house. My mom isn't aware that John is staying here, she's not home enough to know. When he walked in the room his jaw dropped. I usually never wear alot of makeup, or do anything special to my hair, but tonight I had. He wore a shocked expression, "Callie....you look so...soo...beautiful." His lips started to curl at the corners. I turned around showing him my dress, and he walked slowly towards me. I looked up at him, his eyes were usually a chocolate color, but tonight they had flecks of copper and gold in them.
I wondered if he'd be happy when I gave him my gift...well it was more big news.
On the way to the restaurant, I couldn't help but be nervous. My heart had been racing since we pulled out of the driveway. John grabbed my hand, I wasn't as nervous when he did that.
"John, I hope you like surprises!" I asked, even though I already knew that he did. He briefly looked away from the road at me, "you know I do Callie." A smile spread across his face. I played with his fingers until we got to the bistro.
Inside a bubbly waitress named Veronica showed us to our table and gave us a menu. "Could I start you off with a drink tonigh?" She asked.
"Coke for her, and iced tea for me." John answered.
"Will you need time to look at your menus?" We both shook our heads. John and I are weird we always get the same thing at any eatery. As John told her what we wanted, my thoughts raced through my head. Stop worrying Callie he will like the news....and if he doesn't he will leave you. Ugh, but you have to tell it to him now or he will hear it at a bad time...and you don't want that Callie.
John grabbed both my hands from across the table.
"I love you." He said.
"I love you too. Do you want your gift now or after dinner?" I asked impatiently. He chuckled. "After dinner." I was really hoping he'd say now. I sipped on my coke while he told me all about what happened in basketball practice today. The food finally came out!
"Sorry for the wait!" Veronica said as she put the hot plates on our table. I took a bite of my ziti, and there was something hard. "Ow!" I yelped. I pulled the hard thing out of my mouth. My jaw dropped. It was...an engagement ring. John got on one knee beside the table.
"Callie Elizabeth Sawyer, will you marry me?" His eyes glistened in the light, this moment was perfect.
"Yes!" I said.
"I love you so much Callie." He said then kissed me.
He sat back across from me and smiled. He was so happy, and so was I.
"So umm Ill take my gift now." He said jokingly. "Ok, but it's not really as much a gift as it is great news." I looked down at the food on my plate getting nervous again. "Ummm I'm pregnant." I said and then quickly shoved food in my mouth. He put his hand on my arm. "What?" He didnt look happy at all. Our eyes locked. "I'm having your baby John." He squeezed my arm a little. "That's great news!" He said his expression completely changing. I smiled dimly. "How far along are you?" I wasn't really sure. "I don't know I need to make a doctors appointment." I said.
He nodded. "Are you mad?" I asked timidly. He shook his head. "I'm not mad I'm just surprised." I giggled.
"I told you that you would be surprised!" He didn't look amused. We ate the rest of our meal in silence. I should've waited to tell him. Now I've ruined everything. I looked down at the ring on my finger. It was a simple silver band with one big diamond in the middle, and two smaller diamonds on either side of the big one. It was exactly what I wanted. But now was I what he wanted?
