Adri
Biking to school while wearing a skirt isn't fun; but at least I had black leggings underneath. Locking my bike in place I throw my saggy, worn-out floral bookbag over my shoulder and run up the school steps.
I glanced at my phone. 7:36. I have four minutes to make it to homeroom.
Putting some books I didn't need in my locker and taming my wavy dark brown hair, I run down the hall and make it to class.
No one was paying attention to me, thank God. I slipped into the closest empty seat I could find and put my bag down. Scanning the room, I found make-up covered girls with revealing tops and the guys who always flirt with girls. Players.
Typical. I noticed Grace sitting across the room, scrolling through her social media on her phone under the desk. Grace has been one of my friends since middle school, and she's apart of the cheerleading squad, unlike me.
No, I'm not the biggest nerd of the school. I'm just different. Part of the small art club, meetings I spend time painting or sketching things other people don't understand.
The teacher droned on about high school rules, and the clock was ticking. Until lunch, I don't have to listen to this.
| Lunch |
Grace plops down her tray at the table, and excitedly starts to gab. "Adri! Guess what happened?" I had this feeling it was another boyfriend. Heck, it was the first day of our senior year!
"What?" I asked, poking a piece of school stale bread. Lunch here seemed unedible.
"There's going to be a new captain of the basketball team! The other one was kicked off, I was kind of sad. He was super cute! But the new one was super hot! I think I had a fever,"
I mentally groaned, because most of the basketball team were the guys who would find girlfriends and break up with them the next day: players. "Bieber fever? That was so long ago."
She shook her head, blond curls moving with her head. I sometimes wonder why we were friends, since Grace and I were completely different people.
"No, stupid! I bet if you saw him, you'd be weak on your knees! I know you don't fall for guys like that but-" I interrupted her, I just remembered something important.
Tossing my tray into the trash, I waved to her. "Art club meeting. They're starting to do these during school. See ya!"
Grace waved back, her mouth open to protest, but turned on her phone and looked at One Direction fanfiction.
I gleefully ran down the hall but saw a crowd of girls circling the art studio enterance. What the hell? Going the other way around I saw students focusing on their art projects for the show coming up downtown.
Everything was normal. Why did they come here? Then it all made sense.
A tall, lean boy with sparkling blue eyes and a quiff of dirty blond hair stood in the middle, like the light attracting moths. He was wearing a simple black t-shirt and jeans, looking over artwork like the guy was actually interested in it.
All at once I knew he was the new captain Grace was rambling about. Unbelievable. Though he was actually attractive. Nope, this is so cliché. He's way out of my league. Grace jinxed it, I was weak on my knees.
Blue Eyes noticed me standing at the other door, totally checking him out. I fake a cough and looked another way. Pretending to get my art supplies, I quickly went to my art show project.
Adri Copeland, get your shit together. Just because he noticed you doesn't mean you're the sun in his galaxy.
Mrs. Duncan got up from the desk and began shooing the girls off and told the guy to go. "Ryan, you've got to leave. You're disrupting the meeting." she said, in an unexpectedly nice tone. She isn't like that.
But his name was Ryan.
Why did that name sound so familiar? Shaking the thought off, I went back to sketching a girl with crystal wings. My face softened as I got more into it that focusing on Ryan.
A girl that's fragile and can't fly without falling, blue crystal wings and-
"That's a nice drawing. It's cool," I jumped back in my chair, swallowing a scream. Ryan tipped back. "Did I scare you?"
Feeling my cheeks heat up, I mustered a no. He chuckled, and started drawing imaginary lines on the paper. "You should add some icicles and snowflakes, like she's in a cave. Too scared to get out."
His dirty blond hair fell over his eyes a bit, which made him like an adorable lost puppy. Ryan stopped, and his eyes looked at me. "Sorry. Nevermind. I got carried away."
He scratched his neck and patted my head. "See you around, Adri." Ryan quickly walked away, and Mrs. Duncan discussed about the art show coming up. How did he know my name? Did Grace tell him or...
... oh, stupid. I signed my name in the corner. I sighed, and put the moment with Ryan at the back of my mind and continued sketching.
