“Hey Nae...” Mia asked as she nudged her with her elbow while shielding the sun away from her eyes. She glanced up from her phone for some seconds. “Yeah, wassup?”

“Haven’t Daniel and Eliza been acting different lately?” Her face puzzled up. “Eliza?”

“Lizzie. They’ve been extra quiet towards each other and if it’s not that then they’re leaving together.” Mia knew about the plan that Lizzie had to get Nailyn and Diggy together, but she didn’t want Nailyn to think anything too suspicious yet.

“Ohhh.” she sighed in understanding. “Yeah I’ve noticed. Lizzie’s been going through shit and right now, I want to take my mind off of Daniel.” Mia’s mouth flew right open along with a deep, dramatic gasp. “Oh what now?!”

“You, Nailyn Sierra Perez AKA Nae Nae AKA the better-be-known-by-the-time-we-fucking-graduate singerrrrrr-” Nailyn covered her mouth before she could blurt out anymore.

“OKAY. Get to the point.”

“YOU want to get your mind off of DANIEL. The boy that you’ve been bitching about this WHOLE year and been yearning over since freaking 3rd grade.” she rolled her eyes. “6th. Knew him since I was 11.”

“Nigga, don’t lie to me. I know Ms. Justine had taken his ass outta Gassinger Elementary cause of the fame and shit, but you was crushing on him then.”

“She’s got a point there.” she thought to herself. She hook her head quickly and pulled the yellow bus line, indicating that it was their stop. She cut her eyes at Mia.

“I want to stop thinking about him. Period. I don’t even want to think about boys anymore this damn year. 2013 is a new start. It’s fucking April and shit is still back in 2012. Nah son.” She sighed as they got up and walked up the hill to the school. Nailyn didn’t have her car cause she thought it was a beautiful Spring day to be cooped up in a black Mercedes Benz stuck in traffic. Besides, she hadn’t taken the bus to school since Sophomore year.

They continued to walk up the hill and they reached Maddox High, the school. There it looked like any normal Friday: Couples booed up, strags dressing to the Nines, Ballers ballin’ before class, just a melting pot of activity as always. Nailyn took a deep sigh as she thought about how this was a new start. She took the last 2 weeks off because she didn’t want to see everyone and be emotional again. Plus, she had the stomach flu. Everything seemed the same, but she felt as if there was something new...

“Well, I think you might have some trouble with that.” Mia said, half chuckling.

“Why you say that?” Just when she finished her sentence, she noticed the “something new.” He was beautiful. His caramel skin gleaming in the sun as he made his last basket before walking over to the side. His swagger was something different from that of the others...he was different. Symphonic Love was tatted on his chest and other noticeable inkings.

“My lord he is beautiful...” She said as she walked into someone. It was Issa and she was instantly heated.

“My bad Nailyn...” He mumbled, not looking in her eyes. She sighed and dapped him up. “It’s all good, playa. It was my fault.” He smiled relieved. Confused as hell, but relieved none the less. “Oh aight. Um, I’m having a party after the Spring Fling cause you know it never stops. You can come if you wanna.”

She smiled brightly. “You know I can never turn down a party. Me and My crew gon’ be there. Just don’t run out of anything.” He nodded his head and smiled. “Aight shawty. I’ll hit you up with the times when it nears.” He started walking away and talking “Cause you know party planning is hard and shit!”

“Bye son!” She yelled back. She turned her head back to the court and saw that he was gone. It was time to get to class, and she figured he was new so he wouldn’t wanna be late. Mia had wandered off with her group of Sophomores she had Spanish class with, so it was just her. Two steps into walking again, she was bumped into again.

“You muh’fuckers don’t know how to walk got dammit!” she exclaimed as her picked up her fallen bag. A hand with a tat of a skull picked up her diary and scanned the scribbled on cover quickly before she noticed it. She looked at the face.

It was him: “Something New.”

“Um, I’m sorry.” The voice of sex on legs said deeply, licking his lips. Nailyn was mesmerized but didn’t show it. “Yeah, you are. And you’re new.” He smiled and chuckled. “Yeah I am. I just transferred from Bellum Academy across town. I’m Maurice”

“Aw really. That’s cute Maurice... but I didn’t mean it in that way.” His smile faded a bit into a exasperated look. “Oh really...then how?” said through clenched teeth. She snatched her green, tattered diary out of his hands and put it back in her bag.

“I meant it as in NEVER in your natural born life touch this green book again.” She smiled sarcastically before sashaying away. He looked her at swishing in her bleached jeggings, black stiletto pumps and lace shirt. Her hair flowed along with her. His face turned into a smirk as he started walking after her. Meanwhile, her face was red as an apple from blushing so hard. She knew he was looking. She just might like this “Something New.”
