Kyle was staring into GAME OVER-again-when the doorbell rang.
Why were Eidolons so damn HARD?!? He threw down the controller and adjusted his red t-shirt. It was really tempting to go on the Internet for cheats...
The doorbell rang again.
"Kyle, can you get that?"
Kyle sighed and got up from the couch. Dad was busy, and if you provoked him when he was busy...well...let's leave that to your imagination.
He put his gloved hands on the brassy knob and opened the door. He thought it would be Ray, one of Dad's friends and co-workers. But when he saw the visitor, two thoughts entered his mind;
This is not Ray.
And this is no Gold Ranker.
In fact, this guy didn't even look familiar at all. Not that much taller than his dad, he had icy blue eyes. Odd, seeing that that was the first thing he noticed. They were shiny cyan, like the sky had frozen over...continuing. He had spiky black hair that looked like he'd gotten electrocuted. The person wore a white hoodie with gold, silver and red linings on the sleeves and other places, zipping around in complex, yet confined, patterns; black, fingerless gloves; brown shoulder pads and a leather sheath slung on his shoulder; khaki jeans despite the summer heat, and dark grey shoes.
He barely looked older than 18.
"Uh, hi," Kyle said, uncertain. Um, who the heck are you?!?
"Hey. Is this the Gamercrown's?"
"Yeah..."
"Your Dad home?"
How did you- "Yeah."
"...Could I talk to him?..."
"Sure."
Kyle swung the door open and let the guy in. He wandered a bit, trying to find the office, then found it across the hall and opened the door silently. Kyle watched, curious, through the crack in the door. The person crept almost soundlessly up to his dad, who was paying attention to some files and his laptop. Kyle started to panic-what the Nether-when the man moved right behind him, put his gloved hands over Dad's shoulders, and...brought down his hands and yelled;
"RAAAAWWWRRR!"
Dad jumped and spun, grabbing the man's wrist below the glove. Kyle froze, not daring to breathe, his heart racing. They all stood there for half a moment, staring. Then Dad recognized the visitor, released the wrist from his grip, and exclaimed, "Armen!"
'Armen' look equally enthusiastic. He went right up and hugged his dad, clinging to his green shirt and black jacket, like a little kid with his older brother. Dad hugged him right back, his golden styled hair brushing Armen's spiky, raven locks.
"Missed you, Grayson."
"Missed you, too."
They hugged for a moment more, then Grayson released him and said;
"Armen, you KNOW you shouldn't be here."
"Correct; I DO know that."
"Then why ARE you here? Certainly not just to surprise me."
"No, but the hug was a nice touch. I was expecting you to slap me."
"You almost got slapped," Grayson said, smiling. "But really, I'm being serious now. Why the heck are you here?"
Armen's face got serious, too. He sighed, opened his mouth to speak, and said-
"KYYYLE!"
Kyle almost leapt out of his sneakers. He silently motioned away from the door, then started to half jog to the kitchen. "WHAT?!?" he yelled back.
