Her heartbeat was the only thing she heard as she walked out of school. She looked all around, the skies, the ground, to her right, to her left, everywhere. The sky was a dark erie color. The yells of her two best friends caught up to her, telling her to stop. She stopped with an amazed look on her face.
"Oh hey guys. I thought you two were staying behind today so I left." She spoke nervously.
"Oh sorry, the program ended yesterday. We don't have to go there anymore." The tall one spoke.
"Now we can be with you again!" The shorter, more perky one spoke.
"Awesome! I really missed going home with you guys. It was lonely."
All of a sudden, a wail of a siren came from over the river. She knew what this meant. She had waited for this day for two years.
She had to get her friends to safety.
"Guys. Listen to me. This is serious. We need to run to the train station and get underground!" Adrenaline rushed through her veins.
"Sam, what's happening?!" Chrissy panicked.
"Forget it Chrissy! Let's just listen to Sam and run!" JJ yelled.
As they ran, water droplet-sized hail started raining down on them.
"Shit! It's getting closer!! Run guys as fast as you can!"
They ran using all of their strength. The hail was now quarter-sized. Sam panicked, worried if her friends, her family, would ever make it. Then the station came into view. They scrambled inside.
"Good, we made it!" Sam breathed heavily.
The wind was picking up.
"Sam, what in the actual fuck is happening?!"
"Tornado. A tornado is happening. That's what in the actual fuck is happening."
Their eyes widened and panic rose in their eye.
"W-what? H-how would you know?!" JJ's voice quivered.
"Bruh. Really? Okay look. The first step is a thunderstorm."
"Okay...."Chrissy seemed unsure.
"Second step is a supercell. Which is a part of a thunderstorm that is capable of producing a tornado."
They listened quietly.
"Next is the wall cloud, a dangerously low cloud. That's where the tornado is produced. Like its the last step till the tornado. And finally, it hails like crazy and then tornado."
"And you know this how?"
Sam smirked. "I have my ways."
"I swear to god Sam, when we get out of this, I'm kissing you."
"Wait, what the fuck Chrissy?!"
"You just saved our lives! I'm kissing you too!" JJ yelled.
"Hold up. I have to see where it is."
"Oh hell no. You are not going out there and that's final."
"Guys. Please listen to me. I'll be fine. I have to see whether our other friends are there and how bad the storm is. Please."
"No."
Sam heard a bunch of panicked shouts calling her name.
She ran outside.
"Z! Get inside the station! Now!"
He scurried inside.
And then she saw it.
It was a beautiful white funnel. It possibly was going to be a E. F. 3 or even a E. F. 4.
She immediately took out her phone and began taping it coming closer. She was whipped by vicious 100 mile per hour winds.
She stood strong.
It picked up flowers as it came closer. Flowers and trees were thrown into the air.
Her excitement rose up.
She took off in pursuit of it.
"Sam! Get your ass back here!" Her friend Z yelled at her as he ran after her.
"No....." Was her breathless reply.
"That's it. I'm sorry, but-" He tackled her to the ground.
"Z! No! Get the fuck off of me! I have to chase it! It's getting away!" She cried.
"No, you idiot! You could've died. I'm taking you back inside." He threw her over his shoulder and ran back to the station.
She yelled and kicked and threw punches, but in the end even she gave up.
"That was my only chance. It was so....." Exhaustion caught up with her and she passed out.
Two hours later, she woke to the sound of a car. A heavy car.
"Huh?"
"Oh hey kid. How are you feeling?" A familiar voice asked her.
She looked into his hazel eyes.
"Is this a dream? Is it actually you, Mr. Reed Timmer?"
"It's me alright! And I suppose you know Joel and Chris too." He pointed at two others.
"Oh my flipping God! It's actually Team Dominator!"
"Yep. We went on our own little storm chase, just to remember good ol' times and we ended in New York."
She blushes and giggled.
"So did you three get any footage of the tornado?"
They nodded, holding their thumbs up.
"We got a lot. Did you get any?"
She grinned and nodded.
"Wait what's your name kiddo?" Joel asked.
She blushed as Joel was her crush of the group.
"S-Sam. My name is Sam."
"Sweet name!" Reed and Chris chirped.
"Sam, do you mind if we see the footage?"
"I-it would be my honor!" She blurted.
She unlocked her phone and went to her gallery, tapping on the thumbnail with the tornado.
She watched along with them, ecstatic that they exclaimed happily.
"Sam! This is amazing footage! You've got a very steady hand. It's amazing!" Joel gushed.
She blushed and smiled.
"Hmmm...how about you tell us about how you knew a tornado would happen here."
She nodded and told them about how she saw the steps of a tornado happen right before her very eyes.
"Well I think we have a future chaser amongst us."
"What? Really?"
"Yup!"
"What happened right after I blacked out?"
"We saw you and your friend passed out on a sidewalk. We freaked out and thought you two were dead so we carried you two inside the Dominator. Don't worry about your buddy, he's fine. We dropped him off at his place."
Sam teared up.
"I-i thought h-he died. And it was going to be all because of me. Thank god he's alive."
She started crying.
"Hey now, don't cry. You're alive. We all are. No one died or even got injured in the tornado."
"Oh thank goodness."
Still her tears fell.
Joel reached out and wiped the tears on her right cheek while Reed wiped her left cheek.
"You're so adorable! I just wanna poke your cheeks." Chris said while poking her cheeks.
"Well didn't you, just now?"
"Yup!" He chirped.
She giggled.
"You guys are so cool!"
"Why thank you little lady. Now let's get you home."
"Okay...but I won't get to spend more time with you guys. This is like the best day of my life."
"How about this, we give you our numbers and we might take you storm chasing one day."
"What? Really?" She smiled a genuine smile.
"Yup. You're cool enough. We'll take you storm chasing when you're a little older."
She smiled and took their numbers and told Joel where to go.
The drive consisted mostly of them telling her their encounters with the twisters.
As they said their goodbyes, Sam reached up and kissed their cheeks, earning glares from her father.
They laughed nervously and finally left.
That was one crazy day.
