This turned out a little shorter than I meant it to, but oh well.
Title: Fiery Passion

Smoke was heavy in the air. It made your eyes water and your throat go dry and scratchy. You were slowly choking with each breath.
Metal and concrete were warped with heat and flames devoured everything in their path. All around you were screams of pain and terror. From civilians? Heroes? All you knew was you needed to get out.
The exit was blocked, your support gear half-melted, and your radio dead. You fumbled with the radio for a moment, hoping in vain that it was fixable. That's when you saw him.
Pale skin, jagged staples, blue flames licking at his fingertips. Dabi.
He stepped through the chaos like it meant nothing to him- and maybe it didn't. Maybe it didn't matter what burned, as long as he was the one who lit the match.
Your eyes met and you shivered. His blue eyes were like ice.
He lifted a hand and you recoiled in horror. You knew Dabi was a part of the League of Villains and that he didn't like leaving witnesses. You were about to be charred bones.
You braced yourself, but the flames never came. They danced across his fingers for a moment before extinguishing. Dabi moved closer, looking you up and down.
"You're no hero," he muttered to himself, "Support class?"
You didn't answer. You couldn't- not when your lungs burned for clean air.
He stalked closer, then crouched down, resting his arms on his knees.
"Saw you rescue that civilian from the rubble," Dabi said softly, "That was stupid of you."
You stared at him, dumbfounded. He had seen you and actually cared enough to bring it up?
"Stick to your support gear. You're not a hero."
Offended, your cheeks puffed up. You managed to say in a scratchy voice, "What was I supposed to do? Let him die?"
"Yes," Dabi said coldly.
"Well I can't!" you snapped.
Dabi looked amused, a smile playing on his lips. He winced suddenly, and you spotted the wound on his arm. He must have been injured by falling debris.
Sighing and regretting your life decisions, you pulled bandages from the first aid pack attached to your support gear. You scooted closer to the burned man and took his arm in your hands. His eyes went wide as he stilled and allowed you to bandage his injury.
"There," you said softly as you tightened the bandages, not feeling at all sorry when he winced again.
—-------------------
Days passed. Your classmates took your silence for trauma and they weren't wrong, per se. But they weren't exactly right either.
It wasn't the fire that your mind was stuck on. You couldn't stop thinking about Dabi and the way he could have ended your life with the flick of his wrist.
High above, on the school roof, Dabi crouched, a lit cigarette between his fingers. His gaze was locked far below on little old you, eyes narrowed in displeasure. He wasn't displeased with you, but with your choice of company.
You laughed and nudged Bakugou's arm with your shoulder, clearly teasing him about something. His face was red and his lips were pursed in a half-pout.
He hated it. Hated the way you looked so comfortable around someone who didn't realize how fragile you were. Hated the way no one seemed to realize how easily you could burn.
His nails dug into the rooftop concrete. Mine. You're mine. You were mine the second I spared you.
You looked around, unease crossing your face. You didn't see him- you never did. But there was a chill under your skin, despite the warm sun beating down on the courtyard.
Shrugging the feeling of discomfort off, you went inside the school with Bakugou, out of Dabi's view.
He stared at the doorway for a long time, even after it shut behind you. His fingers twitched erratically, tendrils of blue fire curling between them. His boots scraped across the rooftop gravel as he began to pace.
He wasn't upset with you. No, you were perfect. Fragile, kind, and he knew you still thought of him.
But Bakugou? That smug asshole didn't deserve to breathe the same air as you.
Dabi moved beyond the school grounds, where the floodlights couldn't reach. His eyes scanned the windows of the dormitory, looking for you.
There you are.
You were sitting on the edge of your bed, smiling as you tapped away at your phone.
Are you texting him? Laughing with him?
Dabi wished he could just burn the whole building down. He'd rescue you from the blue flames, of course. You'd be the only survivor.
But you would hate that, wouldn't you?
You would cry- look at him like he was a monster.
And he couldn't bear that.
—------------------------------------
It was all over the news the next day- a hero student and professional sidekick going missing.
You were clearly beside yourself with fear and grief. You had no idea why Bakugou had gone missing or where he could possibly be.
At first, you just thought he wasn't answering his dormitory's door. But when even your teacher couldn't get an answer, your heart sank. The whole school was put on lockdown and you were left praying that he'd just stepped out to get a snack or drink.
Any moment now, he'd pop into the common room, asking what the hell was going on... yet, as time passed, you realized that scene was never going to happen.
As a third year, you were already part-timing at a hero agency as a sidekick. When they began operations, looking for the missing student, you were quick to join in.
"We suspect the League of Villains," one of the top heroes in your agency informed you, "They kidnapped him once, they're the most likely to try again."
Your blood ran cold. Would you have to meet up with Dabi again? You still had nightmares about the last encounter...
Little did you know, Dabi was waiting.
And he remembered the last encounter just as vividly as you did.
