Third Person
Maya fidgeted with the loose strings on her shirt as she roamed the hallways of her middle school. She was heading to her favorite class, history. History was the only class she actually enjoyed, even if she didn't want to admit it. She acts like she doesn't pay attention or knows what is going on. But honestly, she loves all of the lessons Mr. Matthews teaches her. The lessons help her understand the world more and they make her a better person. Not to mention, the lessons also help her with her family issues.
"Good morning, Maya," Mr. Matthews greeted her.
"Hey, Matthews," she nodded, taking a seat in her desk.
Maya looked down at the floor and waited for her teacher to start his class. Lately, Maya hasn't really interacted during classes that much anymore. It was all because of Riley Matthews and her friends. Maya and Riley used to be friends, best friends actually. They did everything together. They were an unstoppable duo. They stopped being friends after Riley started hanging out with the wrong crowd. Riley then started bullying Maya everyday. The worst part is, the Hart's will be staying with the Matthews for a while since they got kicked out of their house because they didn't have the money to pay for it anymore. They still think Maya and Riley are friends.
"Hey," Farkle said to Maya.
"Hi. Are we still going to go to get pizza after school?" Maya questioned her only friend.
Farkle nodded. "Yup, I'll pay."
Maya smiled. "Thank you.."
Maya
After history, I got my books for my next class.
"Oh, look who it is," Riley smirked.
Why am I not surprised? She is only by my locker so she can say more rude things to me. I can't believe she does this stuff to me. If only we were still friends. When we were friends, she would try and bring out the best in me. She never gave up on me. I appreciated that. But now I have nobody that can help me get through things the way she did. Farkle and I aren't even that close anymore. I know him and I are still friends but it feels like we're slowly drifting apart.
"May I help you?" I asked sweetly, not wanting to stir up drama.
"Yeah, I was just wondering what part of the thrift shop you get your clothes in?" She giggled.
I rolled my eyes. "Is that supposed to offend me?"
She gave me an evil glare. "Geez, who lit a fuse on your tampon?"
I frowned and walked passed her, carrying my books. I received dirty looks from others as I passed them in the halls. People also started to whisper. I just sighed and looked down at the floor.
"Ow!" I yelped when somebody tripped me as I heard people laughing.
"Here, let me help you up," Riley walked over to me, gave me a sincere smile, and held out her hand.
I was hesitant but I held her hand. "Th-"
"Yeet," she forced me back down and snickered.
I could feel my cheeks get hot as tears streamed down my face. I always get embarrassed in front of everyone at school. I don't know why other people treat others this way. We're all human. Nobody deserves to get treated the way I get treated.
"Aw, is Maya crying?" A voice said.
The bell rang and everyone got to class. I just sat on the floor, hoping that this was all a nightmare.. But it wasn't.
"Need help?" An unfamiliar voice wondered.
I looked up to see a handsome boy in front of me with his arm stretched out.
"Thank you," I mumbled.
"I'm Lucas. What's your name?"
Lucas. What a perfect name for a perfect looking boy. I have no idea why he is helping me and not making fun of me like the rest. He must be new.
"I'm Maya. Are you new?"
"Yup. I just moved here from Texas. Ever been there?"
I have been there, once. The Matthews and my family all went together. Riley and I had a blast together. We were only seven. Her and I even found a nice ranch and we told ourselves that we are going to live in that one when we're older.
I nodded. "Yeah, once. Well I better get to class. I'm already late. What class do you have next?"
"Math. You?" He scratched the back of his neck.
"Same, Cowboy" I smiled a bit and we walked in together.
Lucas
When I entered math class with Maya, everyone started to stare. I shrugged it off and took a seat in the back of Maya.
"Lemme see your schedule," Maya told me.
I handed it to her as she examined it. She is actually really beautiful. I can tell she doesn't know that though. I studied her face more. She has the most gorgeous blue eyes I have ever seen.
"What?" She slightly smiled.
"Nothing."
She gave me a confused look and sighed. "We have every class together. Why weren't you in history though?"
I fixed my hair. "I missed the bus."
She laughed. Her laugh is adorable. Her hair is nice as well. Blonde and curly. I didn't know somebody could look so perfect.
"Sorry I'm late. I had to take care of some business. Anyways, we have a new student and his name is Lucas Friar," the math teacher said.
Everyone looked at me and smiled. I heard girls saying how cute I was. I just laughed and shook my head.
"Hi," a brunette came up to me.
"Uh.. Hey."
She smiled and twisted her hair. She must be a flirt. She also looks really fake. To be honest, I don't like girls like her. I want a girl who isn't all about her self and is caring.
"I'm Riley. You're really cute. We should hang out sometime!"
"Take a seat, Riley," the teacher demanded.
She did as she was told and winked at me. I ignored her, turned my head, and focused on the board.
