"Here," he said, pulling out my chair for me. It was only a crappy low-budget plastic one but that's because we were only at the hospital's cafe. I appreciated the gesture and thanked him before sitting down. "No problem," he replied, after getting himself comfortable. He had bought me a coffee as well which I didn't really want but I was grateful nonetheless. It's not every day a decent boy buys you a drink.
"So how are you?" he asked, sipping his own coffee. However I guess it was a little too hot because his eyes widened and he jumped away from the cup immediatly.
"It it hot?" I asked him, about to take a sip of mine.
"Yep! Geez I think I burnt my tongue," he laughed, stroking the tip of it before pouting jokingly. I laughed at his actions and soon felt my cheeks burn as I began blushing because...damn he was cute.
"Anyway," I continued, giggling, "I'm better than I was an hour ago." He laughed and I couldn't help but notice that his smile was basically perfection.
"Well maybe that's because of me?" He suggested, wiggling his eyebrows. We both began laughing again. Somehow he managed to make everything better just by being there (well except from my breathing) and I had only just met him!
"No I think it was the doctors," I said, shaking my head.
"Wow! You keep doing it!" He exclaimed.
"What?" I asked, puzzled because I hadn't been doing anything on purpose.
"You made another good point!"
"Hey you scared me!" I replied, hitting his arm playfully from across the table, "I thought it was something serious!" Turns out the only thing serious in that moment was the amount of muscle on his arm...
"So how old are you?" He asked, scooting his chair closer.
"17. What about you?"
"I just turned 17!" He said, jumping out of his seat a little.
"Well happy birthday for you then Shawn."
"Why thank you Y/n and happy birthday to you for whenever your birthday is." I thanked him, still laughing slightly like we both had been doing for the whole of the conversation.
"So how comes you work at the hospital?" I asked, "if you don't mind answering of course!"
"No problem and well... because I like helping people and since I'm not a doctor yet this is the best I can do here. I don't get paid or anything but I really like it."
"That's so nice! So you want to be a doctor?" I asked, impressed at how much ambition he had since he was only 17.
"Yeah, ever since I was 5 I've dreamed of it."
"How comes 5?"
"It's not important... So how comes you're at the hospital?" He dodged the topic which lead me to believe that maybe it actually did matter and he wasn't telling me. But I was fine with that because we hadn't known each other for long and I hadn't exactly told him anything important yet.
"I couldn't breathe."
"What caused that?"
"A lot of things really."
"Like what?"
And even though it was a simple question, it brought upon a lot and I guess my lungs couldn't handle the pressure as well as Shawn because soon I was gasping for oxygen and Shawn had leaped out of his chair, screaming for a doctor.
But all I wanted to do in that moment was turn round and say to him: "one of the causes is you Shawn. You literally take my breath away."
