The setting sun cast shadows across the clearing as the cats of ShadowClan gathered beneath the Dark Rock. Nightfeather sighed as she stared up at Shadestar, who was lifting his tail for order.
"As you all know, Lilyheart has recently fell into a deep sleep." He began grimly.
The crowd was deathly quiet.
"Foxfang and Blazefur are doing their best to pinpoint the cause."
Nightfeather felt irritation bubble in her throat. They all knew this already. What was the point of stating it again?
"Nightfeather?" Shadestar asked.
Nightfeather's eyes shot open, ears warming with embarrassment as every cat stared at her. She avoided their searching gazes and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry, Shadestar. What?"
Shadestar narrowed his eyes. "I asked if you knew anything about this strange occurrence, since it's happened to you."
Nightfeather swallowed. She recalled the time when she had slipped into the deep sleep. Her claws dug into the ground at the memory of the Dark Forest. But of course, she couldn't tell the Clan that.
"No. I don't remember anything." She meowed crisply.
Snickers rose from behind her and she whipped around, eyes narrowed.
Rainheart stared back at her, eyes flashing with contempt. A smug smirk was plastered on his face. Sparrowwing sat next to him, looking a bit uncomfortable. Nightfeather shut her eyes as the familiar loss of breath settled in her chest and turned back around. The crowd was dispersing, though Shadestar remained. His leg muscles rippled as he leaped to the ground.
"Rainheart, Sparrowwing, you can leave now." He ordered firmly. "Nightfeather?"
Nightfeather averted her gaze from his. "Yes?"
Shadestar heaved a sigh before sitting in front of her. "Are you alright? I saw how Rainheart and Sparrowwing were treating you back there."
Nightfeather wanted to screech that no, she wasn't alright, but something held her back. "I'm just worried about Runningpaw and Lilyheart." She lied through her teeth.
Shadestar gave her a suspicious glance before nodding. "Very well. Just remember, you can always speak to me."
Nightfeather plastered a smile on her face and turned to stalk away. Her paws slapped against the wet ground as her pace quickened, along with her breath. She ducked into the warrior's den.
Rainheart and Sparrowwing sat in the very corner of the dark den, eyes flashing in the darkness. Nightfeather narrowed her eyes and made her way forward. Looks like I'm not getting any sleep today, she thought bitterly.
"Well, well," Rainheart began cockily. "Look what we have here."
Nightfeather felt her fur begin to bristle. "Shut up, Rainheart." She hissed.
Rainheart laughed and leaned in. "What was that? I couldn't hear you over how stupid you are."
Nightfeather whipped around, slashing a claw across his nose. Sparrowwing gasped, but Rainheart just grinned.
"Aren't you a special little snowflake?" He spat. "Sparrowwing was right to get rid of you. He's glad you're gone."
Nightfeather turned away from him and sheated her claws. "I don't care about him. He was nothing to me." She growled.
