Chapter 2 ~ The Encounter

Sierra's P.O.V

"Hey Aunt Julia" I called from my room

"Yes Cici" she called back. Ugh, I hate it when she calls me that. It was my brother's pet name for me, so it just reminds me of him.

"I think I'm going out for a run" I said.

"OK, be back by 6:30" she told me. I checked my watch, it was 5:13 so I had about one hour and fifteen minutes. I grabbed my jacket and went out the front door. The apartments are right next to a forest area, so I walked right over and after a checking around me, to make sure no one was around, I shifted into my tiger form. It felt so nice to finally be running again; this forest is very different than the snowy forest of Siberia, that's where most of my family lived. I had been running for about 30 minutes, and I decided to take a break. I stopped at this cliff, it had a wonderful view of the city. You could see every building from about a hundred mile radius.

I shifted and pulled my iPod out of my jacket pocket and started it. My favorite song came on, 'Protecting me' By Aly & AJ. I was singing along with it as the sun started to disappear from the sky.

Jake's P.O.V.

When we got back to the pack house we were greeted by my mom.

"Would you boys want a snack?" she asked in her sing song voice.

"No thanks mom," I said

"Yes please" Sam said loudly. Mom handed him one of her famous cookies and walked back into the kitchen. I went to my room on the 4th floor and found my homework. Ugh, I hate math so much. Being a werewolf I am suppose to be super smart, and I am in some subjects. But in math... well let's just say I could use some help. I powered trough it, and finished my home work. I checked my watch, it was 5:36 so I decided to go on a run before dinner at 6:30.

"Mom, I'm going out for a run, love you, bye" I yelled as I ran down stairs and out the door. The house is right next to the forest so I shifted immediately. It felt so amazing to be running again, it had been a with since the last time I went for a run. To fell the wind rushing past my fur, it's the most amazing thing ever. I decided to head over to the cliff, it has the best view in town. I was almost there, but then I heard a voice, singing. So I stopped and shifted in the cover of a tree.

There she was. It was the girl I had seen earlier that day in the Lamborghini. She was singing a song I didn't recognize, but it must have ended because she stared singing one of my favorite songs, "Real Gone" by Sheryl Crow. I went over to where she was sitting, making sure to be quite, I sat down next to her. When the song ended (She had it really loud so I could hear it) I spoke to her.

"Hello" I said, making her jump.

"Ahhhhh!!!" she screamed.

"Don't freak out, I didn't mean to scare you!" I said trying to calm her down

"Sorry, I didn't know anyone was around here." She said sitting back down and taking out her ear buds.

"It's OK, hey, aren't you the girl with the Lamborghini?" I asked her already knowing the answerer

"OH YA! I knew I recognized you, you the guy in the Ferrari!" she said with a smile. Wow, she has the most beautiful smile I have ever seen.

"Yep, that's me" I said, " My name is Jake, what yours?"

I'm Sierra." She said looking a little shy.

"A beautiful name for a beautiful girl." I told her watching the blush creep on to her face.

"Thank you" she said looking down. She had on a really cool t-shirt of a tiger, black jeans and awesome shoes with tigers in them too. She must like tigers I thought.

"You Shoes look awesome!" I said

"Thank you, I got them at hot topic, I'm a really big fan of tigers" she said with a little laugh.

"Ya tigers are way cool" I said, at that she looked up at me and our eyes met for the first time that night. She was smiling really big. I looked at her eyes and realized something, she must be my mate. No wonder I felt so drawn to the cliff that night.

"Umm... I know this is a weird question but, where do you go to school?" she asked me.

"I go to Skyline High School here in town. Umm... Do you mind me asking why?" I asked her

She let out a sigh of relief.

"I'll be going there Monday, well tomorrow I mean" she said.

"Cool," I said with a smile.

"Oh my gosh, I've got to be heading back, I promised my aunt id be back be 6:30!" she said getting up.

" Ya I better be getting back too, Well maybe I'll see you tomorrow," I said getting up myself.

"Yep, see ya" she said turning around.

"Bye" I said heading back to the pack house.

"WAIT," I said turning around.

"Yes," She said looking a little puzzled

"Can I have your number?" I asked

"Umm....Sure I guess" she said, "I think I have a pen set in my pocket... I've got it!" she pulled out a little Orange pen and paper pad."OK... here... you... go." She said tearing out a paper and handing it to me.

"Thanks" I said

"OK, what's yours, so I know it's you?" she asked me

"Oh, 530-555-8761" I said

"OK got it, see ya Jake!" she said waving good bye.

"See ya!" I yelled back as we walked of in different directions

I walked a little bit until I was sure she couldn't see me and shifted, running back to the house. I was sure I'd be late for diner, I looked at my watch, which oddly doesn't disappear when I shift, and sure enough, it was 6:42. Dang it! This is the 3rd time I have been late this week. I ran onto the property, slightly covered in mud (I tried to take a short cut) I was almost to the door when I shifted.

"There he is" I hear my dad say and I see that everyone, and when I say everyone, I mean all 200+ people who live in this house, looked up at me.

"So, where were you this time?" my cousin Jane asked me as I sat down.

"Nowhere." I mumbled

"No tell us J, I'd like to hear it for myself." said my very annoyed mother.

"Fine, I was out running by the cliff, and, well... umm... well I..." I didn't really know what to say.

"Well, spit it out already!" My dad said loudly

"I WAS WITH A GIRL OK?!?" I yelled at him

There were a lot of "oooooo's" and "no ways" from the crowd.

"There was no reason to yell dear," said my mother.

"Sorry" I mumbled

"Was it the Lamborghini girl?" Sam asked excitedly

" Maybe," I said with a small smile.

"Nice bro" he said
