“Kale! Kale! Wait Up!”
“What do you want Dante?”
“Wow calm down Miss Fire Princess!”
Whips of sunset red hair flew around the heart shaped face of a uniquely beautiful girl with icy blue eyes with silver rims, high cheekbones, and unnatural ruby red lips that formed a perfect cupid’s bow. The copper locks landed at the beginning of the girl’s hips, perfectly straight and seemingly untouched by the harsh 40 degree windy weather of Washington D.C. The 5’1” girl turned to see her friend and enemy Dante Williams, a 6’1” tall mahogany hair with deep gold flecked eyes to match ,angel that was forbidden to Kale.
If he had another last name, though, things might be different. The reason being Dante was Kale’s match in every shape, form ,and fashion, but Kale’s father, from the time she was born, hated Dante for no other reason than who is mother was.
Her father, Jacob Allen, was not just in the military;he was a leader in the military. He was The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and an Air Force General. That was why Kale’s mother, Victoria Allen, was so compatible with him. She herself was The (first female) President of the United States of America and a former Admiral in the Navy, but even though they both had duties not just to their military, but to their government as well, they still made time for their children.
Jasper Lee Allen was the oldest, just before Jasmine, his twin. He was the smartest (academically) of them all (getting that from their mother). He studied everything he could; he even had a complete library in his room. He decided to follow his father and go to the Air Force Academy. He was still there because they wanted him teaching instead of going into battle and he is still there today with a current rank of Major (O-4).
Jasmine Leigh Allen was next. She was and still is America’s angel. She was the golden child when she was born. Jasmine was highly in tune with all the battle strategies there ever were. She could recognize any formation there was in the world by the time she was five. Jasmine herself even created a few new formations that eventually brought peace to the world with a final war, World War lll. It truly was a remarkable day in history when all the nations became tied to each other with trusted members of society as the leaders of the independent countries. She, unlike her brother, was the more athletic one (getting that from their father), and followed her mother and went to the United States Naval Academy graduating as top midshipmen at the end of her ‘Firstie’ year. She had had the rank of Captain (O-6) when she joined the Navy SEALs, that was...until she was kidnapped.
The next child born to Jacob and Victoria Allen was the quietest vocally and medially. Kale Rose Allen was the average child with high grades in all of her honor typed courses and was the fastest runner at her high school (getting her speed from her father). She was still trying to figure out her college schedule as of her junior year, but that was when it happened. Chaos rained down onto the world and everything was upset in its balance. Kale was pushed behind the lines, not that she minded, but one day it became too much. She had grown up with peace and she swore by whatever deity was watching her, and vowed to take matters into her own hands.
But, when times were right in their life, their parents read to them, and sometimes even told them stories from before The Blackout (the nickname of World War lll). One of the main stories they told was about when their father was in his freshman year of high school and had loved a girl named Juliet Williams. She apparently had taken Jacob’s heart and smashed it in two. That’s was until their mother, Victoria, had come in; in their father’s sophomore year and their mother’s freshman year they had met while on their NJROTC Drill team and had started a friendship. This friendship eventually evolved into love and that is why they were still together today, because she had “healed” him.
Juliet was Dante’s mother. She was the reason Kale couldn’t even think about being in a relationship with him. All because of something that happen over thirty years ago, but being the good obedient girl she was, she obeyed her father and kept only a platonic relationship with him. Even though that ‘relationship’ did involve a lot of competition, they were both good sports about it and worked well alongside each other.
“I told you NOT to call me that Dante!” Her hostility slammed into the air around the two bodies, causing the air temperature to raise a good 10 degrees.
Feeling guilty the frightened man took a step back knowing the young woman in front of him was furious.
“I’m sorry, I can’t help it; especially when you act like it and make everything around you too hot to stand!”
Kale unclenched her fist she didn’t know she was holding and smoothed her hair back and in a much calmer voice whispered her ‘I’m sorry’.
“Je mi lito”
Her apology was not in English because her mother, teaching her different languages at a very young age, had Kale learn Czech. Victoria being a strong leader seemingly without weaknesses told both of her daughters that they should never say "I'm sorry" it was a sign of weakness. So they modified it. They could say it as long as it was in another language that could be interpreted differently
“It’s fine” Dante replied with a knowing tone to his voice. He had been with Kale since the beginning of her Junior high school days, just reaching at about eight years, with this being their senior year. He knew almost everything about Kale and had even taken the time to learn her many tongues and often spoke then along with her.
Dante then added, “I just wanted to know where you were going this time.”
“How do you know I’m going somewhere?” Kale questioned with her crossed arms and a raised eyebrow.
“I asked first.”
“No… you made a statement that sounded like a question but it didn’t end in a question mark so therefore it is not a question.”
Dante gave her a pointed look and muttered under his breath something that sounded along the lines of ‘smartass’ but she wasn’t sure. He then got serious and said,” I’m not playing Kale.”
“What? I’m not going anywhere, and if I was why do you care?”
He had to think of the right words to say for a second but he finally chose to say “Because if you go away again and I don’t know where exactly you are, the police will think I brutally murdered the President's daughter!” and has an afterthought shouted, “ AGAIN!”
She flashbacked to her last trip she took to the Czech Republic… It was not that great of a mission, but he had gotten in trouble for it and that was why she had rushed towards the end of it and that was why she had to finish it now. More precisely this time though.
She told him with her arms back down to her sides and a regrettably sad look on her downward eyes, “You won’t lose me. This is just something I have to do,” seeing Dante open his mouth and knowing what he was about to say,” No, you can’t come.”
Kale turned on her heel with one last look back and walked into the ever growing blizzard that had formed without the two knowing, but even through the icy wind that blasted through the air she thought she heard a voice whisper to her but she passed it off as a trick of the storm and walked to the only place she herself could call ‘home’ anymore.
“You’re not me Kale…”
*** Author's Note- So we have come to another interesting chapter..... the few clues I have dropped in here will be very helpful with next couple of parts I add. The song I have chosen for this chapter is "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day ...I think the title of this pretty much sums up what Kale and Dante both are thinking at the end of this chapter. Have a Great Day!
