Chapter Four

I slipped through the window and yawned. I threw my clothes in the hamper and pulled on an old shirt and some shorts. I pulled the covers back and got into bed. My phone begins ringing. I pick it up and answer. "Hello?" I say sloppily. "Hey its Lili. What're you doing?" the voice on the other line answers. "Uh. It midnight. I was trying to sleep. What about you?" I respond. "I'm hungry. Jace is home and he's in a weird mood and won't let me take his car. Can you come over and walk to get food with me?" she babbles. "Duuuuude its after midnight..... Sure I guess I will." I tell her. "Yes! You're the best friend anyone could ever have." she screams in my ear. "I know. Walk over here." I get out of the bed. I'm hella tired but Lili is my best friend and I can't leave her alone. - Lili is sixteen. She has pink hair that goes down to her waist. She wears band shirts, skinny jeans and converse. We met in 5th grade. We've been best friends since. - A knock at my window surprises me and I jump. I open the window and I'm face to face with Lili. "You scared the piss outta me." she jumps to and I follow. "Where we going?" I ask. "McDonald's." we say at the same time. We walk the 4 blocks to McDonald's, talking about all kinds of things. Then she asks me the one question I hoped she'd never ask. "How are you?" she asks in a weird tone. "I uh. I'm okay. How about you?" I respond. "Whats wrong?" she counters. "Nothing. Why?" I respond. "There's something wrong with you. I can tell. Tell me what's wrong." Should I tell her everything right now? Or just keep it in? I take in a deep breath and tell her everything.

"No. He didn't.... I CAN'T BELIEVE...." Lili blabbers, as I eat a few over-salted fries. When I first told her she almost cried. It's nice to have gotten it all off my chest. "I'm going to kill him!" she screams. I stare at her and start launching into a speech of how she can't involve him. "I... I won't.... You've been through so much in the past few days.. I'm so sorry.........Want me to stay with you for a little while?" she says. I shrug and nod. "Okay. Well um we should get going." I say to her. We get up and empty our trays and head out the door. Loud voices around the corner catch our attention. "We should check it out." Lili says. I nod. We hide behind a couple of trash cans and listen. One of the voices I recognize. I whisper in Lili's ear. "That's Jace." she nods and I start to listen. "You tried to rape her! That's so wrong!" A deep voice shouts. Are they talking about me? "I didn't mean to! It just kind of happened. I wasn't in control. I'm sorry." Jace replies. "You're SORRY..... That's not going to give her back her innocence. You ruined her." the voice says."Look I'm sorry. I won't do it again." Jace replies."If you so much as come one inch too close to her I will kill you. Do you understand?" the voice says. "Yeah whatever." Jace replies. The owner of the voice comes out of the alley. I recognize him immediately.
