One Shot number 11: Birthday

Hello my lovely readers! Hope you are doing well 💕 me? Same as usual despite having insomnia again for a while but I'm managing it.

Also I can't believe I missed the ten year anniversary since I published this one shots! Time flies by for sure!

Anyways! Just a sweet one shot with a lot of feels in it and a sprinkle of smut 😊 I hope you all enjoy! *bows*

He stared down at the cake that he has been making for the last 2 hours, trying to make it perfect for his boyfriend of 3 years. He just finished putting on the chocolate icing over the cake, it looks smooth but as some rough edges to it but he's okay with that.

He's never baked a cake before but since his boyfriend is turned 32 years today old he wanted to do something sweet and out of his comfort zone. He knows Liam will appreciate it nonetheless.

"Wow, it's looking good. Don't know why you have ever doubted yourself." He hears his friend say and looks over and sees Harry walking into the kitchen, appreciating the cake Niall has made.

He sighs at that "you're only saying that to be nice Haz. You are the one who likes to bake in this friendship of ours." He says to him. But he appreciates the compliment though, knowing Harry he is very serious with his compliments when he means them and he is a sweetheart, especially with the 15 years of knowing him. Even his boyfriend Louis loves Harry for his kindness.

"So when is the birthday boy gonna arrive? Does he even know what you are planning." Harry asks as he opens the fridge grabbing a water bottle.

"He's supposed to be here later this evening and he's picking up food from our favourite Chinese food restaurant, and so I started on this cake after I came home from work, so I can surprise him with it. I'm a little worried he won't like it."

"Ni come on, don't sell yourself short, he's gonna love this cake, knowing you made it from the heart and with love." Harry consoles him, putting his arm over his shoulder and giving him a smile.

Niall appreciates is friends words and puts his arm around his friend's waist, leaning against him "when did you become so wise? I'm sure it's Lou's doing." He says in a teasing tone which makes Harry roll his eyes in a fondly way.

"If Lou ever heard you say that, then he'll never let me hear the end of it." He chuckles at that and then he lets go of Niall, but not before patting his back and sitting down at the kitchen island, taking a drink from his water. Watching Niall as he continues the last details for the cake.

Niall knows he's stressing out but this is the first time he's doing something like this in his relationship, in the past he never usually did this unless he genuinely cared for the person he's with when he used to date girls before realizing he's actually gay and it was quite the eye opener for him and with a lot of support from loved ones when he came out, was there fear in the beginning? Yes but he's very happy with the outcome.

Then he met the love of his life three years ago at a coffee shop and he never believed it in the beginning but it was a love at first sight moment for him, now years later he finally moved in with Liam about two months ago -in a different place that feels more like theirs- and it was quite a big step for him but he's very happy in his life and doesn't regret it.

So Niall wanted to do something special for his boyfriend's birthday -who doesn't celebrate it often- so Niall planned of celebrating his birthday just the two of them, while they will do a small casual party with friends and family on a different day.

And this cake is showing him how much he cares for the man who has made him feel like himself in a long time.

"I see how your brain is overworking right now and I'm gonna tell you to slow that down and relax. It'll all be okay Niall, it's just gonna be the two of you at your apartment."
