Pete's POV
"Who is it?!" Pol whispers...
"Ah! It's him!... Zhu Yichen...Lian's cousin...one of them...his business rival."
"What is he doing?! Is he carrying flowers and...a baby?!"
"A baby?!"
That tall, distinguished figure stops in front of the large statue of the nine-tailed white fox.
He stands there for a moment before kneeling on the ground. From inside his coat, he takes out incense sticks. He brushes aside some leaves. Ah! That statue isn't just an imposing, decorative statue...it's an altar. Incense sticks lit and the flower placed in a vase, that man kneels with a baby in one arm.
["Bring it."] He orders one of the bodyguards.
Soon, they bring out a woman, dragging her by the hair, and throw her violently to the ground.
The person is treated not as a person, but as a worthless thing.
["Zhu Yichen...please...please...I did everything you ordered me to..."]
That dismantled figure looked like it had been severely tortured. The blood on her belly looked horrendous. She was crying and begging the man who kept his back to her, cold in face of her desperation.
["Don't dare to touch me. Keep silence."] Just then, one of the bodyguards struck the woman in the back with a stick... ["How dare you disturb my wife and daughter with your useless growling."]
["I apologize. I apologize...please. Forgive me."]
["You weren't brought here to ask for forgiveness or to be forgiven. You were brought here so Wei Hu Li would know about your fate."]
["What about you! Are you going to avenge her against yourself?! Huh?! You demon!"]
The man stands up immediately after that woman, introduced to me as his wife, is taken away.
He gently shakes the sleeping baby and kisses her forehead. The remaining bodyguards surround Zhu Yichen and his baby and escort them back to the car, which leaves the property.
"What the hell was that, Pete?!" After a while of complete silence, until we were sure no one else was around, Pol and I emerged from behind the bushes and walked toward the statue.
"That was the guy's wife."
"Apparently he wants to be a widower from tonight on."
I crouched down. On the statue was a name written in a tombstone. Jui Wei Hu Li – Zhu Nou's Madam and beloved wife.
