Sing us a song you're the piano man

Sing us a song tonight

Well we're all in the mood for a melody

And you've got us feeling alright

She wasn't anybody and knew it. Ashton didn't.

She was red - in her cheeks, on her lips, and in an open cut by her thumb - she called herself Scarlett.

"Like the letter?" Ashton asked with a wide grin. She dipped her head and took another swig from her glass.

"Something like that."

When she had asked his name, he answered Ashton.

"Like the Pokemon character?"

"Something like that." Though it wasn't like the Pokemon character because the character's name was Ash instead, but she giggled.

Ashton found her mysterious, like all of those girls that he had seen in cinema movies or read about in books from high school. The ones who run around during the late hours of the night with the crazy ideas. The ones who are highly intelligent who live between novels, but insist they're not as smart as people may think. The ones who dance because they can. The ones who jump into a boy's life and destroy him because he can not figure her out.

Scarlett knew that she was not that girl, but Ashton's eyes sparkled because he thought so, and she didn't want to tell him otherwise. He asked her why a cute girl like her had a drink clutched her hand.

"You're too young for this," he said. Scarlett snorted, raising her glass and keeping her eyes on him.

"Am I not allowed to be sad?"
