"Hi. I'm Cadence Eleanor Lee. I'm eighteen years old and I am about to share a story that has never been told. Most of you will think I'm crazy. Some of you will find this sweet...although...most of you will think I'm crazy. When I was in eighth grade, I learned about this crazy thing called atonement...and I must achieve that before the end of today. So, as nervous as I was last night and this morning and for the past week, month, year for this, I am going to tell it. So please listen. There was a boy. A boy in my life. His name was Hunter Camden Scott and...he was my best friend. In eighth grade, my life was changed forever because of him. This is the story."

"Cade!" I hear Hunter call. I look up to see him walking up to me. That is Hunt Scott. Popular, captain of the volleyball team, but my best friend.

Hi. I Cadence. I'm thirteen years old and I am nothing like Hunt. I play violin and piano, I love reading and I am not popular. I am best friends with Hunter though.

Hunt and I met in kindergarten when we were paired together for a science project about grass. I was expecting him not to pay any attention to the teacher like all of his other friends and just to start to snip at the grass, but he didn't. He listened and followed instructions very carefully, which made me intrigued about him. We started having play dates and it all just clicked.

"Hey Hunt. How'd you do on your math test?" I ask. I'd been helping him study for weeks.

"Amazing! I got an 88!" He exclaimed.

"Wow! That's even higher than last time!" I say. He nods looking proud.

"Guess what!" He says

"What?" I ask.

"You know how Talia and my three month anniversary is Friday?" I nod. I did not like Talia. She was always mean to me. But, she was my best friend's girlfriend, so I always pretended to like her, even when she beat me up, for Hunt's sake. "Well I got her tickets to a concert for her favorite band, Panic! At the Disco, and We're getting out of school early on Friday to go see them!"

"That's great Hunt!" I say. Speaking of the Devil, Talia walks up. She turns Hunt's head and plants a giant kiss on his lips. I turn away at the display of PDA. I'm not one for it. I've never had my first kiss. Personally, I feel I'm too young.

"Oh! Cadence! I didn't even see you there!" She said when they pull away. I look at her. She has and evil smirk on her face. Hunt's eyes are as big as beach balls. I sigh.

"What else is new?" I question. She makes a face like she just smelled something bad. Then turns back to talking to Hint I look her up and down. She is wearing caked makeup, a leather mini skirt that is not appropriate for December, yet somehow, her legs are still tan. She is wearing her dark hair hair pin straight and a tight V neck black top that accentuates her giant breasts. I look at myself. My blonde hair is in a pulled into a neat ponytail. I wear minimal makeup, lip-gloss and mascara. My outfit is light denim skinny jeans, a white shirt, a lime green vest and a purple scarf. The outfit was appropriate for January and casual. I was also wearing black converse. I see Talia wearing wedges. Why? It's school not a club. Maybe that's why Hunt liked her.

Hunt and I have always been friends, but starting this year, I started developing stronger feelings for him. I know it's wrong, but I don't fight them because I know they will pass. Hunt and I will always just be friends.

I grabbed my books from my locker and slammed it shut to get them to look up from kissing. I was successful.

"Well I see you round Hunt!" I say hugging him goodbye. This seems to displease Talia, but I don't care. I always hug Hunt goodbye. I begin to walk away when I hear;

"Cade? Aren't you forgetting to say something to Talia?" Hunt asks. I turn around.

"I hope you don't get too cold in what you're wearing!" I say, with the most genuine smile I can bring to my face. She makes and ugly face again to which I roll my eyes and walk away.
