Author's Note:

Greetings, my beloved readers. This has been one of the chapters that has stirred the most conflicting emotions within me. I poured a great part of my heart into it, and I hope you will open yours to receive it from within. This chapter will be quite long, since last night I could not update. I considered dividing it into two parts, but in the end, I decided to leave it whole. May you find yourself swept away by it.

From very early in my life, I trained myself never to delight in the fleeting illusions that would eventually abandon me. I thought this clever strategy would protect me from the grief of loss. But the beast wears many faces... and by accident, I fell in love.

"You may stay here tonight, if you wish. Tomorrow morning I shall give you the details of your new position."

I nodded silently, following her as she guided me to her bed—a vast and sumptuous thing, draped in silk. She tucked me in with a tenderness I had never known, her eyes shimmering with something indefinable, something dangerous. Slowly she closed her own, leaning down to press a kiss upon my forehead.

"Dors bien, mon petit..." Sleep well, little one.

Her voice—intertwined with the rhythmic tapping of rain against the window—was a fleeting lullaby, luring me into the sweetest surrender. Never before had I felt so safe, so warm in the presence of another. My eyes closed, and I drifted into the velvet oblivion of dawn.

The next morning

I woke up a bit disoriented as the memories of the dawn suddenly flooded my mind. I thought it was just a dream, but there I was in that majestic room. It had been a long time since I had slept so well.I stretched as I sat up in bed, not seeing Larissa anywhere, hoping to see her sleeping next to me. I heard the shower, she must be taking a bath, I thought.I quickly got up to make the bed and leave it as it was before.

"Good morning, dear! Did you sleep well?"

As I turned, I could see the body of a goddess standing before my eyes, wearing only an elegant towel, her pale skin wet, as the drops ran down her neck and chest, her white hair wet and her beautiful face without makeup.

She noticed that I stayed looking at her for quite some time, a small smile forming on her face."I'm sorry, I... I didn't mean to be impertinent... I think I should go" I said awkwardly, looking around like a frightened animal.
